Looking for a commuter for my sister
I trying to find a nice vintage bike that would be a good commuting bike for my sister. She does not really want a road bike, but she is pretty athletic and would do good on a quick bike. I have been looking on craigslist and have seen many Schwinn Breezes and Suburbans. I am not sure if this is the type of bike she would want, but I am interested in them. Any suggestions?

Older hybrid types (i.e. cross over, cx, fitness bike, etc.) from about 20 years ago. You can find some nice ones with 700C wheels (can take 38 widths), lugged chrome moly frames, braze-ons for mounting all types of stuff, triple chain wheels, cantilever brakes, alloy micro adjusting seat post, alloy quick release hubs. It's a mixed bag when it comes to prices, but some are still pretty cheap in comparison to road bikes (around my area at least). I set up an older Schwinn Crosscut for commuting, and it works out nicely. If I had to keep just one bike, it would be this one.

I agree^^ look for an older better quality hybrid. where do you live? I bet there is a C&Vr near you with something that will be awsome for your sister, or atleast he/she can help you.

Quick, Schwinn Breeze and Suburban. Never seen those three in the same sentence.
+1 1990s hybrids make great commuters, and are reasonably priced. Some of the better rigid frame MTBs can also make good choices.

I'll jump on the bandwagon. I have a Trek multitrack 720 hybrid that's a very nice frame. I've had it set up both geared and as a singlespeed. My current all-purpose daily rider is a late-80's Stumpjumper with street tires, Porteur bars and bar-end shifters. It rides great and I hardly notice a full load of groceries in the panniers.
