A trip to the display case (BLING enclosed)

Or, more accurately, the ever evolving display case.

Mood shot:

Campag brakes awaiting better hardware:

Kurt,

It's looking a bit cramped in there. Time to shop for a second display case.

I thought the centerpull calipers were destined for the Superior?

I'm always drawn to the CLB2's...even the brake pad holders are high style. Paul components wish they could be that cool.

Either that, or kick the model of James off of the third rung.

The Dia-Compe New Gran Compe 450's went on the Superior. These are the CLB-2's I've saved for a rainy day.

I'm most impressed by that Motobecane/Simplex Super LJ. Those were made for the Team Champion. I think they're pretty rare. Yours is only the second one I've seen and the first is mine.

So that's where it hails from, eh? I'm almost reluctant to use it on anything else, if that's the case.

I thought they were reasonably common, considering the best-photographed SLJ RD on this forum is your own Moto-badged example.

Looks like Kurt has a slight thing for VW Type 1's. S'ok, I do too.
I've seen the case before, I still envy it.

A favorite of mine sits a bit farther down in the case:

Built it from a 1:24th Tamaya kit quite a long time ago. Also did the following with a Revell kit, though I never did finish it. The Revell Herbie kit had a set of towel-rail bumpers not included in any kit; could never get my hands on 'em (I used a Revell George Barris Rolls/VW kit with repop Revell Herbie decals):

-Kurt

P.S.: If you're wondering why the Revell's L87 Pearl White doesn't match the rims - the clearcoat yellowed

My SLJ is wearing a standard Simplex tag now, but I still have the original. They used an SJA102 in the front. It's all steel, but it's the best Simplex that was made with a housing stop. I see you have a couple of SX610s with no tags. You can get the tags on eBay, but the price has gone way up since I bought mine. The SX series RDs take the smaller size.

I was into Karmann Ghias before I got into vintage bikes. I had a '68 and a '74 convertible.

I built a lot of model cars in the fifties and sixties. I even won some contests.

I just watched The Love Bug, Herbie Rides Again and Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo in a marathon Comcast session throughout yesterday/last night! What are the odds?!

Seeing your awesome photographs, I realize I don't need any more parts.

I need a display case!

Very, very nice collection you've got there.

I figure I'll replace the tags when something convenient pops up - I'm not in a rush to mount any of the three to a frame just yet (for that matter, I don't have anything in the first place).

Any photos of your scale handiwork?

I saw them sitting in the Comcast lineup a few days ago too - looks like all the feeds are receiving the lineup of Herbie movies.

Good choice avoiding Bananas - about the only good thing in that movie was the fiberglass wheelstanding Herbie (in the early Mexico scenes). While I've never seen them, I get the feeling that the 5-episode mini-series was better than that movie...

Ironically enough, the Wiki page for Herbie Goes Bananas has a photograph of an astounding 1:25 Tamaya model:

That's not the real thing, as realistic as it might look. Notice that there aren't any struts behind the bumper guards.

+2 Need a bigger case, and perhaps a bigger room. Time to add on to the house....

Room is already maxed out, display case can be re-arranged.

Thing is, I usually go on a frame hunt when the display case gets cramped, but I'm starting to run out of rooms for bikes. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that

So far, my bike component stash isn't as big:

Mostly classic 80's French "junk" that's going on to a future buildup as soon as find the frame I'm looking for them. At least I finished building up the wheelset last night!

Speaking of model cars, I also collect them.

The Porsche section of my displays. Totally out of room already. as I already had to mount one of the Porsches to the side of my cabinet, as seen in the pic. Don't know where I'll put the next one that comes in. I hope I find that frameset soon!

My display case is much, much less impressive. I do have more stuff I could add to it, but I already have to tell people the stuff isn't for sale. I imagine it would be worse if I put even more stuff in there.

French JUNK? I've been salivating over those CLB sidepulls ever since you posted them earlier in the week.

Though not a Porsche fan, I am a sucker for the 917's, especially the long-tails. Very nice.

I do spy an Audi in there though

That is arguably the most memorable picture I've ever seen on this forum. I remember when you first posted it. Such a moody composition - the seriousness of the expression; the calipers gleaming in the background. Almost looks like something you'd expect to see Valentino Campagnolo doing as a kid.

Please tell me you have a framed version of it in your workshop

That's at your shop, I assume? Best to keep it minimal, or you'll be hounded for ages. The Superbe calipers already look scrumptious enough to inquire about.

No Audis in the display. I think you see the front of the Porsche RSR 2.1 with the "Audi logo on it's front, which was basically an racing uber version of the 911.....mit KKK Turbos..
In the 70's and 80's lots of racing Porsche's carry the "Porsche + Audi" markings to market the partnership the dealerships have in the US market.
I think the shelf isn't bent, just a fisheye effect from the camera lens....but I guess it will be god to check it tonight....

Aye, it's at the shop. (I moved, btw. I updated my old thread here on BF with pics)
I have boxes filled with odds and ends that people are starting to discover. Pinch bolts for old brake calipers, d-ring bolts for DT shifters, Huret barrel adjusters, etc. Plus I bought a box of 30 or so Weinmann and Shimano brake calipers a few months ago, and have been selling those (saving the best for me, of course) too.

The NOS 600 Arabesque group and the Superbe calipers have definitely been the most inquired-about items in my shop, I think.
