Great! It's gratifying when some of the "useless bike trivia" I've picked up through the years ends up useful to someone. Enjoy those brakes!

There's no such thing as 'useless bike trivia' on this forum!

That chain guard got a lot of compliments when first shown around! The seat, too! Can't wait to ride the canal this summer on it! Great conversation starter! For the time being, it resides in the bike vault!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Paul. I've checked the website and it looks like a great event. Even though the website says you can do it unprepared, at a little under 300 kms a day, I wouldn't really think so. If I start training now, maybe I can make 2017. It'd be really cool to have done this.

It is not a difficult ride, just a bit long. In 2009 at some of the controls in Scotland you could get whiskey.
In 2017 i will enter again, maybe we can meet at the start?

OK I'll play. This picture is of my wife and myself on the South Rim Grand Canyon Greenway a couple of years ago. We were riding our 1990 Moogoose Crossway 850's which we had purchased new from the L L Bean bike shop in Freeport, Maine back in the day. This might be the best view on any of the trails we have ridden in the past 40 years. Can't wait to get back and see the improvements. The camera was fastened to a tree via a Gorillapod.Gorillapod.

I'm riding every day in April.

I started with my commute, which is 31 miles round trip.

Easy peasy, until you take the potholes into account.

Thanks for the offer! Meeting at the start and having a whiskey is one thing, riding 1,400 kilometers in 5 days quite another. I need to think about that ...

yeah, the one starting from Zoetermeer, since Zoetermeer is just 10 minutes away by train. And I don't mind wearing a helmet :)

And did you do the 200? It was nice cycling weather last Saturday.

I have taken many, many photos of my bikes but I've only managed to be in one or two pictures WITH my bikes. My beard is a lot longer now than it was in this photo. I also included a photo of my Schwinn Expensinental, which is my seriously modified Schwinn Continental. I renamed it an "Expensinental" because I've invested an embarrassing amount of $$ in my many updates and retrofits on it.

Time for a little fun - scozim, drillium dude and northbend at the Friday night races at the Marymoor Velodrome outside Seattle last summer.

So what's with the mismatched haircuts and the tongue in the opposite direction? That northbend guy must be a real rebel.

The Expensinental looks nice, and I'll bet rides nicer now, too.

Doesn't northbend look like Calvin of Calvin and Hobbs, all grown up? ;)

This page doesn't have enough scruff (sorry the bikes off to the side out of the shot)

This was taken last year, just after I bought this Miyata 110 and replaced the tires. I remember going home and removing the brake extenders as soon as I could.

The only photo I have of me on an HPV (not even a bicycle.) From three years or so ago.

Thank you! Another mystery solved. As it happens I have a pair of Tourney center pull brakes from the same period, until now without levers. :)

Excellent!

I met up with John (formerly OFG) yesterday for an IPA and some good conversation in his man-cave, then had lunch with Will (WNG) today, after which we drove on over to John's for some more bike-geekin'. Will then took delivery of my '78 Colnago Super which he will keep well-exercised until some point in the future :)

Some pics from today follow.

Great meeting up with both of you again and catching up a little. Will, thanks for lunch and John, thanks for the beer!

I begin my trek back up to WA tomorrow around mid-morning and will be back down again in about 3 weeks. Looking forward to my next visit :)

I think I would go for a full face helmet if I were to try and ride that thing....

And a pair of ski poles.

RobbieTunes 04-19-14 07:26 AM

After a particularly difficult ride. A mechanical issue. Cold. Windy. Hectic pace to rejoin the group. :notamused:
Whatever, it was true to cycling, wouldn't change much about it. I'd prefer to be younger, though.
