Will then took delivery of my '78 Colnago Super which he will keep well-exercised until some point in the future :)

Some pics from today follow.

Looks like there are some real crappy bikes hanging around

That is one excellent photo.

This was my first attempt to ride the entire Banks-Vernonia trail, an old rail line transformed into an asphalt path for 21 miles one way. This was at Stub Stewart State Park in Oregon and I was taking a break. Note the non-vintage Surly Cross Check behind me sporting a Carradice Barley, Neubaum's cloth bar tape and SKS Longboard fenders!

^ Nice color on that Surly!

Velocivixen 04-22-14 05:38 PM

Thanks. It's called "Robin's Egg Blue". It now has a black B17 and Fizik microtek bar tape in black, and I took the fenders off. It's more "sporty" looking now.

I think fenders can be a great functional touch to a bike like yours. But, they have to be cool school like the one below.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=376225

@Highgear - yeah I've got those VO hammered ones on my mid-'70's Motobecane and they're nice and they're functional. I'm thinking of moving them over to my Mixte though. Every time I'd take my Surly on the MAX (think electric rail line urban) and hang the bike from one of the bike hooks the rear mudflap would scrape the ground because it was so long. Not a big deal, but an observation.

Whatever, it was true to cycling, wouldn't change much about it. I'd prefer to be younger, though.

Me on Skyline Drive today after an 8 mile climb. I don't look very happy, but I am!

Thought I would swing by and say hello since it's around midnight and I'm just sitting here procrastinating working on studying for finals.

Selfie on today's 5-city tour around the bay. I'm in San Diego for work, and had the weekend to myself. This is on the Bayshore Bikeway between Coronado Island and Imperial Beach. The SD-Coronado bridge and San Diego Naval shipyards are in the background.

I flew my Trek 560 with me to have here. Seemed to be the most appriopriate bike for SD (not geared for typical Western MA / NY Catskill mtns, and fenderless, easy to pack):

Really nice pictures, everyone. Welcome to the newcomers and the folks who usually just lurk.

rccardr 05-07-14 05:44 AM

Ah, looking much happier. 40 miles on Skyline Drive yesterday, something like 4500 feet of elevation. Now I know I can make it up Thunder Ridge on the 18th!

Alert observers will note that I've gone to 10 speed DT shifters on the Century. STI's with a compact triple (50/34/24) was just too fiddly.
