Routing for brakes/barcons?

Ok, I need my first poll. With the "new" Touring Series III on the way and my going to try barcons for the first time I'm just swimming in a sea of options on how to do the routing.

Vote your choice and if you feel like it give me a blurb about why.

I voted #3 BTW, that's how I'm currently leaning.

Brakes aero, shift non-aero.

Non-aero brake cables just look messy alongside barcons. If you're really going to be doing any touring on your rig, you'll want less clutter and chance of entanglement whilst in your cockpit, and if one needs to go aero I believe it should be the brakes.

fully aero barcons can require tandem length cables, depending on how big your bike is.

I've gone both ways with the barcon routing. I found the shifting the same, but it was nice to have the cables out of the way for a handle bar bag.

I run aero brakes, and non-aero on the barcons, mainly because tandem length cables cost a hell of a lot more. When I want to use a handlebar bag, I just push the cables aside, it's no trouble.

I vote for aero brakes traditional shifter. I think running all the cable under the tape can cause undue drag on the shifter cables. not as a big of a deal today with index and lined teflon cables but if your keeping your friction system go for traditional. the aero brake cables look cleaner and as pointed out make getting into your bag easier. I wear a whistle when I ride and the open brake cables seem to catch on them.

I was (as always seems to be the case) a bit short on cable housing when I finished off the "Calico Bianchi"

Will most like need tandem cable with aero shifter routing. I didn't notice a difference in shifting feel when the cables are routed underneath the handlebar tape, then again i'm using friction and not as experienced as most of the folks here.

Thanks to all of you for the votes, thoughts, pics, and insight. I'm still somewhat conflicted (or is that 'flicted? ) but you've all given me some good information to digest.

Thanks!

I voted aero for both. I'm not a fan of bar-con cables coming out in the middle of the bar...I much prefer the cleaner aero look.
As far as using tandem cables, you'd really only need one for the rear derailleur...you should have plenty of length for the front derailleur with a regular cable (I only needed one tandem shift cable for our tandem, and was able to use a regular cable to the front derailleur). For what it's worth, when I bought tandem cables recently they were $5 each at REI.

+1 to all of that. I don't see using tandem cables as a big deal... I did it on my Team Miyata and I'm perfectly satisfied.

Full aero, why? Because it's much cleaner looking, and I like the cables out of the way... personal preference.

FWIW, I was able to set up that 54cm Miyata with cables just as they came out of the bulk pack box.
