Your posting a reply to an almost 2 year old post. Nice bike though.

There seems to be an awful lot of old Miyata threads floating around right now, and they are all about Miyata aluminum bikes. That can't be a coincidence, can it?

I ride an aluminum Miyata myself and I am very fond of it, I think it's a great bike, but I have nothing to do with this recent gaggle of Miyata threads! But I am sure glad somebody else here appreciates them!

If you don't want to read them, ignore them? And to ilikebikes, I wasn't around on BF two years ago, so the posts are new to me. Was simply doing some research and thought I'd comment since it wasn't anything worth starting a new post over. Oh well, can't make everyone happy!

I have a 721 that I bought in mid-to-late summer 1990. I love it. I have taken it to the James Lick Observatory at the top of Mt. Hamilton in the Bay Area of Northern California. I have taken it to the vista point through Saratoga and enjoyed the entire ride.

My 721 has the stock gearing. I added two water bottle cages and a rack on the back for my lunch bag and such. I've not changed anything except inner tubes. What a wonderful bike to ride.
This is pretty much my setup which I believe is the stock bike as I picked it out off the show room floor: (I copied this from another post so I can't be 100% sure until I go home and check)

Derailleurs - Shimano Exage 500ex (with on OE date code)
Brakes - Exage 500ex (also with OE code)
Shifters - Shimano Light Action (SLA500)
Rear hub - Sealed mech. EXAGE FH-HG50
Front hub - HB-RM50 (with NJ date code)
Seat - Turbo
Seat post - Sakae CR
Chainring - Biopace (triple!)
Crank - Shimano FC-A500 (with OB date code)
7 speed Cassette.

Mine looks almost just like yours. I have white tape on the down-tube handlebars, I have 2 water bottle cages and a rack on the back for my lunch bag. But I have the same bike with the same paint job that yours is. I LOVE my bike. I bought it new in 1990 and it was a lot more than he was asking $200 or the $150 you paid. You got an amazing deal. Enjoy the bike. I sure love mine.

Miyatas have s cult following, and for good reason. They are exceptionally thought-out and executed bicycles and I believe the 721 would be near the top of the line-up. The lugs on these bikes are beautiful and the lines clean. Great looking bike! I have a beat up frame I've been wanting to build up but have no idea what direction to take it.

EDIT: ghost thread!
