Here's a couple pics of JR's Mondia set on the bike:

Shipped fast and he even sent me replacement World's bands when he realized he'd sent the incorrect ones in my set. Oh, and I hadn't noticed myself; the replacements came with a note explaining why they'd been sent to me separately.

That's customer service :)

Of course, that was my experience. I'm sure there are other people who (for an example) have been totally happy with their Cyclart restorations :D

This time around, however, I went with Greg Softley for the Guerciotti decals - his set is absolutely the most accurate repro set I've ever seen. If my experience is similar to those called out on this thread, I should have mine next week.

EDIT: For clarity :)

What is the point you're trying to make? That you're happy with both decal makers? Why did you bring Cyclart into it? They won't sell you decals.

peter_d 06-25-12 08:38 AM

My one experience with Velocals took lots of patience. Five weeks for the decals to ship then another four weeks in transit from California to Canada. I've used Greg Softleys Cyclomondo store many times and can expect the decals to arrive from Australia within ten days; a couple of times Greg has mailed the decals within hours of my placing the order. I recently ordered a set of Grandis decals from Velociao in Germany that neither greg or JR carried, the decals were mailed within days but transit time was almost a month. Should mention that all the decals i've bought have been perfect. If i was on a deadline doing bikes for customers i would use Greg, no contest.

My point is that customer satisfaction - in any business - varies. And someone asked for pics :)

Okay.

FWIW, I placed my first order with VeloCal this afternoon (70's Nishiki Competition decal set). I placed the order at approximately 2:30pm via their website. I received almost immediate order confirmation by email at 2:34pm, followed by shipping confirmation/tracking number at 3:55pm. I can't complain about a 1.5 hour turn-around! Thanks JR! :thumb:

I was looking for the last I in Bianchi....Blue with gold trim.

I tried SSSINK...no response.

I tried Cyclomondo....."Hi Marc, The problem I would have in creating an i would be getting the correct shade of blue. If the blue was slightly out then the whole Bianchi word might look wrong. Cheers Greg"

I tried JR at Velocals..."Hi Marc, Sure, I can help you with the i letter. Just send me an overall measurement and outline width and I’ll take care of it for you. Price would be $5.00 shipped. Thank you for contacting me. At Your Service,
JR. Anderson VeloCals.com"

Settles it for me...seeing as I'm not talented enough to print my own, I wont gripe, complain or badmouth the one guy that will do it for me in regards to how long it takes.

Todays gonna be a good Day! Thanks JR.
"Hi Marc, I finished your decal and will send it tomorrow. No charge on this, enjoy. JR."

When I lost my job a year and a half ago and was in the middle of my Schwinn Sports Tourer project. JR out of kindness sent me a set of decals as I just had it repainted and was decal less. I didn't hint that some decals would be nice but couldn't afford them because of my situation. He just asked me for my address in a PM and next thing I knew I had a set of Sport Tourer decals in my mail box a few days later. That's over and beyond in my book. I'll also deal with JR over Cyclomondo any day of the year. I'll leave it at that.

I got the decals... they are perfect.

Now.... how to remove the old decals? The chainstay decal came off easily.... the others?

My decals arrived yesterday and they look great. :)

I just found time to install my '85 Trek 620 decals! Happy to help a small business!

Perfect!

So, in closing, I found the product and service from Velocals to be A+.

I also love my Brooks saddle and I like to hear what guys are using to lube and clean their chains..... and I really don't care who it ticks off :)

Full set of 1988 Ironman Master decals.
Ordered, shipped same day.
Rec'd in 3 days from CA to NC.

They're not slow any more. Oustanding.

JRrestore 08-28-12 07:51 PM

Thanks Robbie for the "thumbs up"! Over the last 60 days, VeloCals turnaround time for online orders has averaged 1-2 business days. We've also added dozens of items including sets, frame/tubing decals, and other individual decals. Very shortly we will be updating our website to include an array of color and materials options. Thank you for your support.

JR.

RobbieTunes 08-28-12 08:12 PM

Well deserved, JR. Between what I've bought and told others to get on what I built for them, this is the 7th set. 4 of those builds would not have been done without knowing I could get the decals to do it right. All the rationale I need.

My experience with VeloCals and J.R.

When I purchased an original 1974 Raleigh International a year ago, I wanted to bring it back to its full glory. So, I went online and discovered: velocals.com

I ordered the decals, and got a pretty prompt reply from J.R. that he had a serious private family matter to deal with, and gave me a shipping date about three weeks in the future.
That was clear and easy to understand, and acceptable.
The photo shows the package and contents that arrived.

Here it is a year later, and I have not applied the decals yet.
But, I have them.
Thank you, J.R.!

Someone asked earlier in this thread how to remove the old decals.
Here is what I found on the Surly bikes website:
Use credit card or plastic spoon to flake off the old decals.
Use a hair dryer to soften the old decal.
Use adhesive remover with a clean cloth.
Use rubbing alcohol or multipurpose cleaner to finish.

My Velocal decals have been great, from the special made Mondia Separation stripes to the Super Course seat tube decals. Soon to Order Schwinn Paramount decals. Thanks JR

Well...JR ended up coming thru for me and recreated the Vittorio Strada decals for my MAX. He should be shipping them tomorrow...so...if all goes well, I should have it painted and built in the next 2-3 weeks!

Much appreciated...

I know this is a old topic, but I have bought 5 sets of decals from velo cals and they were all perfect. I mis applied one decal and the sent a replacement for free. These guys do a great job. I just wish they did Schwinn decals.

Tough to get a hold of hem (them). Trying to get instructions on fitting the color sheet for the head tube around the lugs. Anyone done this?

Hi Mtree,

Here is the way the color sheet mounts to the head tube.
Get a piece of notebook paper, cut it over size to the head tube area you're wanting to fill. Center the paper and tape (magic or masking) the paper to the tube.
Use a pencil to carefully trace around the area to be decaled. Cut out the paper to shape. Fit and trim the paper template making sure the shape fits the tube. Once you have the paper template ready, you can use it on the vinyl sheet. Carefully place the paper template onto the vinyl and trace around it. Using scissors cut out the vinyl to shape. Mount it using the soapy water solution, making sure the tube and adhesive side of the decal is wet. Mount the decal onto the tube moving it into the final position. For smaller areas use a cut down plastic card (mini squeegee). Let it set up for a minute or two and then carefully squeegee out the water, going from the middle outward toward the edges.

Thank you.

Tomorrow we finish up this project and take the bike for a spin.

Everything else for this '83 Trek 850 went on perfectly - looks better than new.

cqlink 05-15-17 08:09 AM

I just ordered a set for my '86 Paramount. Arrived Saturday. When I dry-matched the "Paramount"script to the bike, the letters were too big. As a result, the entire "Paramount" script was too long. I took the "Schwinn" script decal and did same with same result: too long, too big.

Not sure what happened. I emailed Velocals for return instructions. From most of the posts here, it looks like their customer service is good. We'll see. I'll post an update.
