Mystery bike before and after
I checked in here after I bought the mystery bike, but was never able to determine what I had. Now it's completed and I think it turned out pretty cool. I retained the wheels, headset, shifters and seat post, but added SR derailleurs, saddle and Cinelli bars and stem - that I had in the parts bin. I had to spring for new tires ( because they are awesome ) Cuisse stainless cages ( awesome again ) and found the Dia-Compe Gran Royal long reach brakes on ebay. I also swapped the original 7 speed cassette for 8 cogs from an Ultegra 10 speed cassette and matching chain...and it works really well.

Nice indeed. BTW, didn't you state the mystery frame had a rifled seat tube? I see you applied 531 decals, shouldn't it be Columbus? Unless I'm getting my posts all mixed up.
Regardless, I really like how it turned out.

is it an Allegro or is that what you decided it should be?

No, you must be confusing me with another post. Seat tube isn't rifled, but it takes a 26.4 seat post. The frame was powder coated when I got it, but it had some corrosion issues. I had it blasted clean and had the powder coat redone. Original color was a bright white, but I prefer the antique white it is now. I did tons of searching and visited three different forums looking for info, but came to only one common belief...it's French. With the (probable) Reynolds 531 tubing, Bocama lugs and Campagnolo dropouts added to my search criteria, I got a lot of hits for French builders but also Swiss makes too. So I went with the Allegro decal kit from cyclo-mondo, because it was the style and color I wanted.
