A DAY OUT (1911 style)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCgF3l9pKQo

Alan Bennett's first work for television (1972) a beautiful, simple picture of a Halifax cycling club's day outing in the summer of 1911, a short but valuable escape from those 'dark satanic mills' of Northern England.

Watch out for the late great Yorkshireman actor & wrestler, Brian Glover (Kes, Aliens3 etc).

Simply charming. I love the "Raleigh Rattle" when the group is at speed.

For anyone interested the entire play is available as part of a dvd box set. 'Alan Bennett at the BBC'
I've just watched it and really good fun to see them having such a wonderfully familiar day out, stopping at the pub for a quick pint, falling off, fixing punctures, etcetera despite being 100 years distant.

Very neat, those cobblestones look rough.

what a great movie! was that all of it or is it longer? I thought it was great how the father was so firm and encouraging to Earnst but gentle and kind to him as well. infact aside from a bt of good natured teasing everyone seemd to be very nice to Ernst. great bikes, fashion and movie!
