I used car wax after the treatment. Paraffin might be a better choice. The fork crown issue was kind of extreme, but if you look closely, pretty much all of the fasteners (seat post clamp, chain ring bolts, canti brake bolts, etc) were in similar condition. Some I just replaced (like the chain ring bolts, caught them on clearance at Niagara about a year ago and backed the truck up), others got the OA treatment. Paint on the frame was in remarkably good shape.
I've learned that some Fuji catalogs don't match up with bikes, so I am not surprised. Take the Opus III, the catalog says Superbe Pro when it comes with 1st gen Superbe. You can even see the Superbe RD in the photo. Of course, I wouldn't complain. I like the 1st gen over the Pro.

Well I went to look at the Fuji today fully intending to buy it, it was listed at $195 and I figured it would be super nice and I'd leave with it for $150. Not what I'd expected, the bike was fairly scratched up, had a replacement seat, replacement bar wrap, needed a tune-up etc. I don't think the wheels were original either, they were Ukai 27"ers. Tires were not great etc. He told me that he knew that he paid too much when he got it for $400, and I wholeheartedly agree. I didn't feel like I could pay any more than $100 for it, but left without making an offer because I didn't want to insult the guy. Also, what's up with the indentations on the bottom in the picture below? Is it dented, or are all of the frames like that? A little lost as what to do with it, make an offer? Walk away?
What are thoughts?

Here's some pics. Looks like I must have broken the front derailleur on the way home. I'd like to get some new pedals, chain, obviously a front deraileur etc. Any recommendations on what to buy? Should I just get a whole new component set? I don't really know what I've got here or where to begin to be honest.

MKS Touring pedals and Suntour Cyclone GT or Suntour V-GT derailleurs. I slightly prefer Cyclone.

Whta's the higher end of those two? Is that a recommendation based on quality or originality? I don't want to spend a bunch, but I'd like to make this thing nice and ridable for the forseeable future.

The Technium was a steal that went quick, this thing sat for sale for almost five days. The technium is for sale if you're interested, I'd like to get close to enough to offset the fuji. Let me know if you're interested. Don't know what your username means, but I just sold a '75 CB400F too!

My CB400f was a 1976. My all time favorite motorcycle.

I have a set of those bars that I have never rode. They came on a Technium 460 I flipped.
Velocals has a T V decal set. I plan to use this set on my III just leave the series number off.

My $8 yard sale Touring III....looks like hell rides like heaven.
I think the PO was Lurch. has a 48spoke rear wheel on a Tandem hub. The Rims match.

BTW, shifter cable routing is much improved now, translated: redone. Yeah, I left them short above.

V-GT was just a cheap RD that is known to function extremely well for being lower end. It has a fair amount of steel, so expect it to be slightly heavier, but not significant for touring purposes. My Mountech RD is in pretty bad shape, so I will be switching over to a V-GT on my TS IV because I have one on hand and I like variety. V-GT Luxe is nice too.
I don't believe that there is a V-GT FD, but it seems like they were frequently matched up with Compe V. I assume that it would reach for a triple, but hopefully someone will chime in. I suppose that you could get another Mountech FD, if you like. The Mountech RD is known to have some problems though.
Neither "sets" are all that expensive. Check some Ebay prices if you are really curious, but Ebay will be a premium. If you have a bike co-op nearby, they can sometimes be had for dirt cheap($10-15 or less for the set).

What's the consensus? Go original or upgrade? What would be some good affordable upgrades if I chose to go that way? Also, can I change the name of the thread to reflect that the decision has been made between the bikes?
