1992 Miyata Triple Cross
 

I was going to post this in the Clydesdales/Athenas Forum, but I thought there would be more interest here. I've been riding this bike a lot for the past few months & it's performing very well. I ride it mostly on the road and hard pack gravel trails. The only thing I kept from the original factory build was the seat post.

It was built up with Phil Wood Riv hubs (custom 48 spoke in rear), Velocity Chukker Rims w 700c x 37 Continental Sport Contact tires, Chris King headset, Nitto Mustache bars with Lime Green cloth tape, Pink Jagwire cables, a Nitto Dirt Drop Stem, Sugino Triple XD2 Crankset, Zefal Ciry fenders, and a Brook B17 Special saddle. Wheels were built by Rich Lesnik at Rivendell. Bike was built by JT at J&L Bicycles in Burlington, NC.

WOW...love it! That must be a fantastic bike on light gravel and it looks like it would get through anything.

Bring on the fire roads!

Even though I have a couple of nice road bikes, I find myself using somewhat similar bikes to yours, the very most.

I have a Bruce Gordon Rock 'n Road and a Miyata Trail Runner.

I wouldn't change a thing on your build except for the stem, and that would be for personal fit issues.

was going to say the same for the pink....but neat bike. Are those bars readily available or are they only found on old bikes? I ask as I have an old touring bike it would be fun to make into something diff and I have seen these type bars before and tehy look pretty snazzy.

@djb - Those are "mustache" bars, they are commonly available from a variety of manufacturers in both aluminum and steel, with Nitto probably being the most common.

I really like this bike - a nice combination of modern and classic, subtle and daring.

and wow 48 spokes, thats a lot of spokes, but from my fully loaded touring days, a good well built wheel will generally go for ages without any spoke problems so if you are a heavy fellow, this must be great. Its funny how the extremes are, my wife and I just finished a 6 day biking event where the vast majority of people had high end racing road bikes, so we saw lots of very minimal spoked wheels. (my wife on a light hybrid and me on a cyclocross....so many of those bikes more pricely than my old car)

I have a '01 triplecross and it is a little fun machine! Fast, grips the ground like no bike I have ever rode, and throws my big butt forward like I am launched.

All right!!! Triplecross love fest!!! I LOVE mine. What a great bike. It is the do all, grocery getter, errand runner, do whatever I ask for it to do bike. When I bought it off of craigslist for a whopping $40 bucks it was just going to be a flipper, but I rode it. End of story. This bike is a keeper and my SUV of the fleet. It does it all.
Mine looks nowhere cool as the OP but it does exactily what I need. Tee your 3X looks outstanding.

Are those modern Shimano Cantilever brakes? What model? They look good and might be a great solution for older forks with narrow cantilever post centers.

Wow, this thread got bumped from five years ago...I'm glad though, some gorgeous bikes in here.

Those are great! A Triple Cross frame turned up at the co-op a few years ago, so after it sat in a pile for a few days, I adopted it. Built up with old mtb parts and drops with barends, it turned out awesome. I rode it for a while and finally gave it to a kid who rode the FOOL out of that bike until he finally moved overseas. He'd go from Atlanta to Birmingham, Atlanta to Augusta.... He'd just get on in shorts and basketball shoes and start pedaling! Awesome!

I used Shimano BR R-550 brakes with Kool Stop salmon MTB brake pads. It's still my favorite bike.

C'est magnifique! (trim those fender stays lest they gouge your legs :thumb:)
