Got a 86' Fuji Del Ray in great condition!
Picked up this Fuji Del Ray in great condition off of CL for $50. Woman said it was in storage for the past decade. Spent an hour or so cleaning it all up (still not perfect, but much, much better).
Things I've noticed. The main triangle of the frame is almost the same dimensions as my current (modern) road bike, yet the bike just feels a lot smaller. Also the handlebars are 2" more narrow.
Brakes don't seem to stay centered and I can't figure out how to center them. When I pull the brake, one side continues to rub after letting go. I center it, pull it and it stays.

Great bike and an awesome price. I have an 84, and it is a very nice riding bike
Loosen the nut that holds the brakes to the frame or fork, center the brakes, and then tighten the nut back up.

Nice grab, they're nice bikes.
Bars seem to have been provided a lot narrower back in the day. My guess is that stem has less reach than the stem on your modern bike...might be a difference in the bars...could be a lot of things that make it feel smaller. You'd have to measure everything exactly to see where they differ.

nice looking Fuji. I sold one of those at the shop back in...... well lets just say the bike was brand new and not that 'leftover'. I alwasy thought it was a great looking bike.
can you post a close up of the brakes? I would suggest putting some of those "star" washers between the brakes and frame.

Nice find. I have two 23" Del Rey frames that I found in the trash that I'd like to trade for a 21" Del Rey frame. If I do find one I'll put a Nitto technomic stem and 42cm noodle bars on it. On some of the Del Reys the crank spider is drilled for an inner ring, so it would be easy to convert to a triple. It would also be a nice candidate for a 650B conversion, in which case I'd replace the brakes with Dia-Comp centerpulls.

Congratulations musicmaster - great find. Terrific, very well finished frames and reliable, high quality components. One of my all time favorite bikes. Not a bling bike in any way - but all that a good value, solid and reliable, general purpose bike should be.
I find these underappreciated (except around here in BF) and thus generally great values. $50 is a steal though - you did very well there. I thought I was lucky to pay $100 for a nice 84.

I was hoping someone here would get that one! It was in the Quad Cities right? A little over a 2 hour drive for me, but it would have been worth it if it was my size! Enjoy it!

Perhaps a little short but nothing wrong with that stem. You'll only want to change it if you find the top tube length or your 'reach' to the bars slightly on the short side. If the standover height is right but you feel just slightly cramped on the bike you might want a longer stem, but I'd recommend riding it a while before you form a conclusion. Keep in mind that we are talking about fine tuning. If the bike is too small for you lengthening the stem is unlikely to solve the problem. Also, needless to say you can further fine tune the fit by changing the rise or drop angle of the stem you use.

I love those old Fujis I have a Royale and 3 Supremes. One of the Supremes does permanent duty on my training stand.
