5 7/8" on the stem. It's put together now - I was stymied for a while because the stem wouldn't clamp down on the bars I had, so I was figuring out how to shim it.

This thing is faaaaantastic. I'll be riding it to work tomorrow so I can really shake it down. I will be doing a metric century on it in Oct.

I'll take some more photos (with a real camera) very soon.

For most of them, I believe so. I don't know anything about this one.

I'm finding date code PA on the components. According to the date code, that puts them in 1991. First, I had no idea that they made STI Brifters in 1991. Second, that makes this maybe a 1991/1992 bicycle?

Does anyone have a Univega SN database? The only number I can find stamped into this is "050" and that doesn't match up with any serial numbers I see on the internet for Univega. How rare is this thing?

my '89 waterford paramount has what I was told "first generation DA 8spd STI", same as yours I think. My DA kit is probably '90. My paramount is also the first year schwinn used oversized (OS) tubing for the paramounts. Your univega OS / Dura ace bike makes me wonder if they (univega) were reacting to the schwinn intro of OS, or maybe to part of the race end of the bike market at large in the early 90s.

That's 150mm !!!!!!!!! The measurement taken must have been from the back of the stem to the front of the clamp, not c-c ?

It comes in right at 21 pounds - that's not completely accurate, as it is using the bathroom scale method. That does include pedals and cages.

Yes, the stem measurement was end to end.

Looks like a 54CM size? 21 pounds that's pretty light "out of the box"!, and with some mods with carefully chosen lighter components and maybe even tubulars, you can get that down to possibly right below 20 pounds...if you even want to lose that little bit more. Most race and sport bikes of that era came in at about 2 to three pounds more from the factory.

I had a chrome fork built of the same Tange tubing (or blades, in this case) that was labeled "MTB", but that fork was by no means a Mtn. bike fork, it was for 700C road wheels. I think Tange was convinced that the tubing would only be used for Mtn. bikes when they made the decals, since that's what the people were buying.
BTW, I might have a dustcap for you, PM me and I'll start hunting for it.

That saddle is murder. I went on a 30 mile ride today and the bike is fantastic, except for that saddle.

Well, as the doctor, upon his patient telling him that his arm hurt when he lifted it, said to him "then don't lift your arm"...I will say - don't use that saddle!
But the good news is you have a great bike that you can tune to a great ride!

Finally another Ultraleggera

Here is my Ultraleggera back on bikeforums. I guess the host for my other photos, that I posted, no longer hosts my photos. Now we have 2 Ultraleggeras on bikeforums.

I have it decked out with Dura Ace 7400 and 7700 with a 9 speed friction downtube setup. I added the Shimano stickers. It is one of the nicest Univega that I have seen. I really lucked out with this find. I got the frame on ebay, about 6 years ago, for $75. The Dura-Ace headset, that came with it, was almost worth that. It looks like you really got a screaming deal with all the DA components that came with yours. It looks you have Mavic Open 4CD rims. That makes for a real nice wheelset.

Info on this bike has been elusive because the bike is so rare. In six years of constantly looking yours is the only other I have seen or even heard of. According to T-Mar this bike went for about $1800 back in 1991. I think this bike stands up to any steel bike of that time.

With the wheels I have on this bike it is one fast ride.

Oh yeah, the Shimano dropouts on the frame are something you don't see every day either.

What is the serial number on yours?

I kept finding the dead pictures of yours while trying to research what I had.
