Panasonic bicycles were fine machines. Obviously they presented a range of quality. If i remember right, a company owner was a cycling enthusiast and created the bicycle manufacturing portion of the Panasonic company. Many 80's schwinns were Panasonic built bikes.

Their bikes range from entry level junk to fine racing machines. The pictures here don't tell much, other than it is closer to the former than the latter.

Looks like a 1986 Sport 500 to me. Entry level Panasonic casual rider bicycle.

Panasonic bikes was part of the Panasonic company that made radios and other consumer items. They sold bikes in the US from 1971 to 1989. They made bikes for Schwinn starting in the '70s, and Raleigh USA in the '80s (and probably for others, I would guess). They still make bikes, but only a few of the fancier ones are sold in the US, by yellowjersey.com ...

Turkey levers in the photos you link to reveal it to be a lower model. They were always well built bikes in their class (and they made bikes in all classes). My friend had a 1980 or 1981 Sport or Villager with the Shimano Front Freewheeling/Positron crankset/derailleur/rear hub system. It had a much nicer paint job than my Mexican Windsor, though it was at least 5 lbs heavier.

Although the pics are small, that bike looks like a Sport 500 that my son had for a couple of years. He has moved out of the house, and didn't want to take it with him, so we sold it this past summer. If it were bigger I likely would have kept it around.
Good solid, well built, but inexpensive bike.
