replacment wheel recommendations for my bianchi

I noticed that i have a flat spot in my rear rim. It is alot more obvious since i went to the higher pressure tires.

The bike is an older '87 sport sx and far from mint althought it isnt bad.

THe rims are Araya 700c bronze in color with a 6 speed cassette.

Should i look for a replacement rear or go for a better upgrade to the wheelset altogether? The front one is fine although the braking surface is showing its age.

If i go for a direct used replacement (another set of arayas) how much can i expect to spend....or i should ask....how much is too much for an older standard wheelset?

If i upgrade to something better....does anyone have any recommendations that would make me and my bike happy? Id like to find somthing of the same era that would accept my cassette....just spin it on and go....

hmm would a set of used MAVIC MA-40 rims lace to campy hubs be a nice upgrade? It would cost me about a c note for the upgrade.

Screw on freewheel hub? Phil Wood is the best , a Buy one and it will be passed along to your grandchildren.

It's that durable..

how about these on the ebay? 270645498197

Id want to pull the dura ace freewheel and put my old trusty shimano 600 freewheel on there that im running now. Is there any reason i wouldnt be able to spin the existing one off and thread mine on? From the description it appears to be a "Freewheel" and not a cassette but i cant tell from the pic posted of the current setup on the rear hub as to which it actually is.

Thoughts?

Those should work. Measure your rear spacing, if it is 6 speed freewheel it should be 126mm. The suggestion for the Mavics is a good one also (for rims). Something laced to some good hubs (Campy NR, Phil Wood, etc.) would be what I would look for.

scale, If all you need are rims (two to match) I'd rebuild. If it's your only bike a spare set of wheels can be quite handy.

Thanks!

In looking at the wheelset i just got a reply from the guy on the rear freewheel .He said it is indeed a thread on freewheel. It is a 7 speed. Does the extra gear throw off the 126mm spacing or are 6 and 7 speed spacing the same. Like i said....ild like to just thread on my shimano 600 6speed cassette and go (provided it comes off easy enough).

Thanks for the offer brad...heheh..not sure you were offering to rebuiild my rims or recommending that is what i do myself but it sounded nice I mgiht end up doing that if i cant find anything else to work at a reasonable cost. im hoping to upgrade my old wheels as well as have them be true...with no flat spots. My araya 700c set has a flat spot in the rear and both are showing their age. Id like to get a pair of rims and learn to build wheels but after i aquire new spokes, nipples, rims.....and possible hubs the cost / time ratio might be easier to find a used set already built up.

My sansin alpha 5000 hubs are hard to find parts for. I remember the cone replacements were tricky to find.
