Is this a Schwinn Super Sport???
Found on an online ad and was curious. Price is a little high, but I'm tempted none the less. Looking through old catalogues online, I was having trouble verifying it as a Super Sport (or even a schwinn).
Facts
I sent an email to the guy who is selling it, but I haven't got a response yet. I know there are lots of schwinn experts here. Is this a schwinn? Is it a super sport? Thanks!
Facts
- color doesn't appear to be a stock color
- Super sport used Columbus Tenex not SL
- No logos
- mixed groupset

Schwinns were badged as tenax, not SL as mentioned. I was thinking they were only frame tubes as well?
Repaint w/ new decals could be anything, including something other than what the decals say.

Is it possible that the bike is a custom built with SL tubing? I sold a Terry Osell bike last summer for a friend that had the same color scheme, use the same Shimano 600 group and just looked very similar to that. This one does have different cable routing - but the custom I sold used the same stickers that this one does and didn't say anything else on it. Hmm...

Well, it's not the classic fillet brazed Super Sport that people want but Schwinn made some pretty nice bikes in the 80s and I think I've seen that color before, but it's not my field. Does look well equipped.

I got a reply from the seller. He is second owner and he got the bike as is. He doesn't know if it is repainted, but it doesn't have any stickers other than the columnbus sticker. He said the Performace Bike shop near his house and the previous owner told him it was a super sport.

FYI, ~1975 was last year of the hand brazed SS. In ~1982 Schwinn revived the name on a lugged frame bike. The catalogs are here:

0547 is the code stamped into the schwinn badge. I think that means Feb. 23, 1987 was the production date. Shouldn't I see the serial number in the picture of the headtube? Here is a picture of a schwinn tempo (1985 I think) that I used to own and the serial number was plainly located on the bottom lug of the headtube. I'm beginning to think this is not a schwinn at all.

I sold a pink one like the above picture a short time ago. It was Columbus Tenax tubing and it was , as far as I can remember, just about all Shimano 600EX components.
