Miyata vs. Schwinn
I'm in the process of buying a new road bike. Which one should I go for?

Any information on either one would be great!

The Miyata ad was deleted...so it seems you lost an option. That's an ok price for the Schwinn, depending on condition...not remarkable, not awful. You need to make sure the seat post comes out and unless you can do the work yourself, expect to pay around $125 for this to be fixed up properly (new pads, new cables, overhaul bearings, cleaned and lubed chain). There's a decent chance it will require new tires (around $30 if you go inexpensive).

I'm still a newb at this too, but I'd say try to find yourself something else. The Miyata has been deleted, so it's probably gone. Older low end Schwinns tend to be heavy and blah judging from what I've read and the two I had briefly when I was younger. Miyatas are great, but tend to go for more money. In my limited experience, if you have a tight budget, I'd say look for a Motobecane. You can find them for the ~$100 mark and they're nice bikes. My Mirage was a great riding bike. I'm sure there are other brands with good value for low money, but I don't know enough to know what they all are.

The Miyata post was deleted because that's the one I ended up getting for just $75.

Good Choice.

Do a search in this section. Go to "advanced search" then choose to search thread titles only. I'm sure you'll find at least a few threads that will tell you all about it. Should be a really nice bike. I had a Miyata 512 for a couple weeks (it was way too small so it was sold) and it rode beautifully.

The Miyata 110 was Miyata's lowest level entry...still, for the money it's a good buy. It was a better deal than the Schwinn.

The Miyata is a nicer bike than the Schwinn, but the Schwinn wasn't a bad choice, and the price was ok. Getting the Miyata for that price is even better.

Welcome to C&V purplepedal. As you can tell, we're a nice bunch of bike nuts. Since you collected the Miyata in NH, do you live here in the Granite State? If so, where abouts?

I have had 3 Miyatas pass through my garage in the last month. A 110, a 310 and a 312. All nice riding bikes. Even though the 110 was entry level it is a great score at that price if it's all mechanically sound. In SoCal it would have lasted about 8 minutes on CL.
The 110 in this thread look a lot like this link which is a 1989 110.

Here is a link to some older Miyata catalogs .
What you picked up looks similar to the '89 or '90 model.

I just took my miyata for a night ride and it is absolutely beautiful.
There isn't any rust on the frame and the Shimano gears shift smoothly. Plus it fits me perfectly. It was hard to find a bike my size. (I'm just under 5'2".)
But honestly, anything is a step up from the purple free spirit I was riding before.
To pastorbobninh, I'm actually a student in Boston. The seller from New Hampshire was kind enough to deliver the bike to me. I hope people here will invite me on bike trips now that I have a sweet new ride!

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
The 110 was Miyata's entry level sport bike and yours appears to have received some upgrades in the way of aero levers, new brakes, and nicer wheels.
This takes your bike up quite a few notches as Miyata never made a bad bicycle and the 110 was a nice bike that was just fitted with some lower end parts... replacing those makes it a much nicer bike.
You scored on this one.
