I found the cutest old Nishiki !!
See the pix and tell me if it isn't so. I found a pretty yellow Nishiki hanging like a bat from the ceiling of a garage at a yard sale on the weekend. The woman wanted $20 for it and then reconsidered, thinking that $20 was too much to ask for it !! Possibly from the early 1970s, with a Kawamura frame. Found in Southern Ontario, Canada but the bike shop sticker is from Del Roda Western Auto on Hialeah in San Bernadino, CA.

Almost a time capsule. Cool bars and what's written on the stem? Great fenders and a vintage Japanese ping bell to boot.

The little white eagle that is stencilled on the chain guard is indicative of the the origin of the bike and its final market destination:
There is a little sticker that says it was made in Japan right under the American Eagle decal on the seat post. The serial number on this bike (KS122007) indicate that the bike was designed, specified, marketed and distributed by West Coast Cycle for the American market by Kawamura Cyles in Kobe, Japan .

I've never seen one of those. That's a really cool find. I like the barcons. Good buy for $20. I'd estimate mid-70s, but that's just a guess.

It must be pre 1972 since the format of the serial number is not:
Kawamura manufactured frames (1972–1987): These frames used a serial number XYZZZZZ format where:
:Example 1: KA24587 is the 24,787th frame produced in 1981 for the US market.
:Example 2: CG231117 is the 23,117th frame produced in 1977 for the Canadian market.
:Example 3: WE54612 is the 54,612th frame produced in 1985 for the US market.
It is also post 1970 since it has Nishiki name and not American Eagle. That puts in at ~1971

- X is the market (C = Canada (pre-1985) K = USA (pre 1985) W = USA (1985–1987)).
- Y is the last digit of the manufacturing calendar year (A =1, B = 2, C = 3… J = 0. Exception is letter S, used on all frames prior to 1975).
- ZZZZZ is a five or six digit number, possibly representing a sequential frame manufacturing number for the year (or era in the case of pre 1975 frames).
