Giant Sedona or Bianchi
I'm thinking of reducing my bike collection. I have 2 bikes from the late 80s. Neither are in great shape but each could be cleaned up to be made into a winter bike or city bike.
The first is a Giant Sedona 1988. Chrome Moly quad butted frame, Shimano Exage mountain componets. Some rust on all parts cables and brake shoes need replacing.
The second is a Bianchi sticker says Campione del Mundo 1986-1987. Chrome Moly frame Sugino VP cranks, Suntour 5000 derailuers, Araya rims and SR rims, Shimano brakes. Some rust needs new cables.
I like the classic style of the Bianchi but the Giant seems a better fit overall. I'm not sure if it's worth keeping both and I need more room in the house.
Any thoughts?

Keep the one you like riding most. I'd personally keep the Bianchi, but if you like the ride of the Giant better, stick with that.

it sounds to me like one is a MTB or ATB and the other a road bike.
is your Bianchi black or new rose (light red) colored? it is not a Campione del Mundo it is a most likely (unless someone swapped the components) an '87 Sport SX. which was not only my first Bianchi but first new "10 Spd" if you like riding on the road keep the Bianchi it is one great bike.
if you need a errand / beater bike keep the Giant

The Bianchi is celeste colored. It looks like the grizzley in your photos but doesn't have a U brake. I didn't notice a name on the top tube but I'll relook tonight.

interesting, when you said it had Alpha 5000 derailleurs I thought it was a road bike. I can't wait to see some pics so does it have 26" wheels then?
PS I don't know if noticed this your pics/links are not showing up

OH I bet you have an '87 Cervino, Auqua in color w/white decals, with the afore mentioned Alpha 5000 and Shimano AT-50 brakes. Bianchi doesn't give alot of frame details other than "MTB Chrome-moly including chainstays" so the seat stays must be chewinggum or something LOL. I bet the Sstays are a mangalloy, the earlier mentioned Sport SX has mangalloy stays and still rides great.
you did not specify whether the bikes were road or MTB. I knew the sedona to be an ATB type but the Bianchi threw me off at first. Bianchi for some reason in '87/'88 had seperate MTB catalogs and I am not as familiar wth the specs on those as I should be. nice BIanchi I would still keep it if fits and rides good.
PSST if it is 20" and has to go I know a girl who might like it

This would be a no-brainer for me. At the risk of offending Bianchigirl, I'd choose the Sedona. Both bicycles are ATBs from the same era and price range. However, if the Sedona fits better, you're going to enjoy it more and ride it more often. Plus, it has the bonus of Shimano SIS over SunTour AccuShift. Shimano still sells compatible shifting system parts for the Giant, while you have to hunt Ebay if something goes wrong with AccuShift.
The one thing I don't understand is that the Bianchi is only about an inch smaller than the Giant, yet the Giant's saddle is set up so much taller, to the point where the frame looks too small.I'm assuming these pics were taken bewfore you adjusted the bikes for best fit?

My '91 Giant Sedona will be going into its second Winter presently.
If I had a choice, I would not have designed the cables to run under the bottom bracket, even if I wasn't subjecting them to wet salt. I keep the cables and drivetrain slathered in 90 weight gear oil which keeps everything working. It will get a replacement chain, rotated off one of my other bikes, this season. The original one, although still working, is quite brown and crusty.
Otherwise, the Sedona has made an excellent trouble-free Winter bike and the price was exactly right. I'm not sure I'd sacrifice it this way if it had been in good condition though.

For actual offroad riding, it looks to me like the Giant is setup better and is a slightly more evolved design. The bianchi looks more like an earlier design more suitable for "beachcruiser" use. You might weigh both bikes and keep the lighter of the two (but give the Giant a bit of credit for the weight of the accessories).

BradTX/Bianchigirll thanks for the pics I couldn't see them either:-).
T-Mar, the Sedona isn't fitted for me with that seat hight although I did keep the seat about 1.5/2 inches above the handle bars. The Bianchi is adjusted for a more relaxed fit.
Bianchigirl it's 19" c-c
