Colors: What goes with a Red or a grey frame?

I'm thinking of swapping all my flat bars to road bars and doing the bars up as a harlequin wrap. What goes with a Red Frame? How about dark gray? The Red bike is not c&V but the gray one is.

    And the Gray:

Depends on the red. Pictures are a must here.

Obviously someone versed in colors will step in and toss out some complimentary colors without seeing a picture, but no one can say for sure without actually seeing them.

dark gray will match with a lot. Yellow, Electric/powder blue, Red, Orange, Bianchi Celeste - I think the main idea is a contrast to the dark by choosing a lighter tape.

I've always disliked red & yellow paired because it looks like McDonalds to me. Maroon and yellow is the Washington Redskins (woohoo!). For red bikes, I dig white...mayyyybe silver. If you want to be loud and snazzy-like, electric/powder blue.

I have a red bike with yellow graphics. Racks, saddle, seat post, stem and bars are black. Cable housings are yellow, bottle cages are yellow, bar tape is yellow and black. Panniers when fitted are yellow and black Ortliebs. The bike is on the stand right now and still being built up...pictures eventually.

Not sure what to do about the gray. I always default to black bar tape, or natural cork.

White, red, black, silver, yellow, gold, and certain shades of blue and green. Very many choices for those colors.

Typically, rule of thumb is to match a neutral color (white, gray, black) with a color, and vice versa. Although complimentary colors work well too.

With your red bike, white, black, or gray would look classy. Blue and Yellow would look fine too. Green would make it look "Christmassy". Orange is probably not a good color either.

With your Gray bike, just about any color you want will work, although a different value color would work well. White or black for a monochrome look would work well, or red, orange or yellow. Blues and greens might not go well. It might fade into the frame color. Or look like mould.

When all is said and done, get the one you want most. That'll please you best. Remember that there's no accounting for taste. Nor should there ever be.

    Enjoy!
    Chris

I think white is really hot on red or blue bikes. I tried white on my old Bridgestone that had a white rear triangle. However white bar tape and saddles are impossible to keep white unless they have a plastic-y surface texture, which I don't think is so great...

I personally would probably do black on the red bike and red or blue on the grey bike.

I'm leaning towards black on both bikes. Call me boring but I reckon that the red bike would look but finer with a black wrapped bar than another colour.
