VARTA / JPR 617 FRENCH MADE LIGHTS w/ HOLDERS or TA Rack Flashlight Attachment

Does anyone else have these or have seen them before?

They're supposed to fit on a TA front rack or into a skewer. I just won them on ebay when no one bid on them. I think they'll look cool on my px10 rando setup.

I've only ever seen them on a vintage french touring bike pic i have on my desktop.

bon.

I'd love to find a cool rack mount flashlight holder. I've seen some modern ones for handlebars but I don't like them.

Very, very cool.

I'd like to figure out something like that for my Bobet, I did score a couple of vintage flashlights, just need to devise a mount.

I have a few sets. They accept a standard thread (like a skewer or a fender eyelet bolt). So it's easy to mount them anywhere using a P-clamp or the like and an appropriate bolt. Pretty cool. I'm going to try to retrofit an LED light into one set.

Let me know how that goes. I had the exact same idea.

I used to own a pair. They leave a lot to be desired.

The flashlights do not provide much light. The optics are bad. Their variable focal length adjustment is a clue to how bad the optics are.

The clips that are supposed to grip the flashlight don't do a very good job. The flashlight will vibrate loose and fall onto the road. I suggest that you place a hose clamp around the assembly to prevent them from suffering a similar fate.

There's also a tendency for the flashlights themselves to come apart due to road vibration.

The French were great believers in using flashlights for night time illumination. The PBP course was littered with fallen flashlights and flashlight parts for its entire 1200 km length, when I rode it in 1979.

The stuff looks great, just don't ride it any distance and expect it to remain in one piece.
