Can anyone in Costa Mesa/Orange County CA. help me out?

So i need help overhauling the bearings on my centurion ironman and probably my bianchi as well. I am in high school and money is short so the LBS is kinda out of the question atm, and plus i would like to know how to do it for the future. If anyone around here could take me through it it would be very much appereciated(i know about park tool and youtube but im still a bit scared and dont have all the tools anyway). And i know beggers cant be choosers but i really need someone who knows what they are doing and can get me through the whole preocess. Thanks !

Chad, you need to buy one of the bike repair manuals and an inexpensive road bike to practice on. Remember, you were the fellow grabbing up all those great bike deals awhile back. I met you at OCBG when you looked at my 1971 Le Champion and you struck me as a pretty capable young man.

all you really need if you can get a ride to los angeles. you learn how to work on your bike, and you get to meet cool people. I say that's a win win

You can also go to Park Tool.com and at the bottom center is a get help section and as very user friendly.

I'll help you out Chad. I'm in Costa Mesa, near abouts Victoria and Barrington. I'm just a novice, but I've dismantled a few bikes... eventually got em back together. ::grin:: I may or may not have some of the more specialized tools needed, e.g. no Suntour 2 or 4-notch freewheel remover, but we'll find that out quickly.

Do you have a stash of bike parts I can help myself to in trade? I need to finish a build and could use some caliper brakes plus a few other things.

email me michaelATdepletedDOTnet

BTW, does anyone know if OC Bike Garage (or anywhere else in OC/LA) has a vintage parts bin? I've been trying to raid a friend's dad's stash but he's too attached to let the goods go. I could also hit Bici Cocina, aka Bicycle Kitchen, but I've never gone to them for that purpose.

cheers,
-Michael

Ride yerself there, if yer bikes in question are road worthy. I commute the route regularly: 20mi up PCH to Long Beach; grab the Metro Link to Downtown and go from there up Sunset. He's right, those folks are a win-win.
