Cranky crank

During commuting my fair weather Schwinn Traveler has started to develop grinding sounds from around my feet, so I decided to take apart and repack the bottom bracket.

I took the dust cabs off, removed the nut attached to the axle and started to remove the crank arm. However, this is where I'm stuck. I cannot get them off.

The axel tip is flush with the outside crank arm threads and the crank puller cannot go in far enough to thread it in. There is no washer inside. What am I doing wrong?

your not doing anything wrong you just need a different puller. something like the Park where the threaded center retracts further. the one you have is more for BBs/Cranks with a bolt screwing into the spindle rather than a nutted spindle

Perfect! Thanks, Bianchi Girll! That's all I needed to know.
