Is your Turbo repro slippery? Can I treat it with something?

I know not everyone here rides with biking shorts (okay, maybe I'm a minority) but I thought I'd ask here since the road forum probably doesn't use this saddle. I find it to be pretty slippery and when I'm wearing gloves I don't have very much grip on the bike as a whole since I ride in the drops a lot. I may try tipping the nose up a little (which I am used to) to see if it helps, but could I put anything on the saddle to eliminate the ice rink effect without getting crazy/anything on my shorts?

Aren't the new ones covered in vinyl? If so, have you tried washing it with ordinary dish soap? Hope that helps.

Yes, I found mine to be slippery. I also couldn't get as comfortable with the re-issue so I sold it and replaced it with an original. No slipping and much more comfortable.

Dish soap eh? Does that work?

I thought of getting an original but...Christmas is coming and I really can't be spending money on my own stuff right now.

I use a repro on my commuter bike (which I ride everywhere) and I think it's fine. Maybe at first it was a little slippery but I guess wearing jeans on it for a while maybe roughens it up. The angle makes a big, big difference, of course. From my experience it should be at least level, if not turned up slightly.

Yeah it's level now but I really should nose it up since that's the way I usually ride. Jeans not allowed with drop bars and clipless in my family

The re-issue I had was white. I found a white original on Craigslist for $20 and went with that. Maybe I was lucky.

i dont even think they should call them re-issues to be honest, its not leather or suede. there is a definite difference between the originals and the new plastic ones. besides, i own four vintage turbos[currently looking for a red leather if anyone is holding...] and between the cost on CL of all 4 i have maybe $90 invested.

That's usually my rule too....but I've broken it this year commuting. No desire or time to change before/after class when I only have ~3 miles to ride. This winter when I'm riding to work in the financial district everyday I'll need to figure something out as I don't want to ride to work in a suit! (off to the commuter forum...)
