Is the steartube 1-1/8"? I wouldn't say that frame alone is worth anymore than $150 on the open market so $75 pure profit for the thrift store is aces. It's old aluminum, not some vintage treasure. I'm sure it is a great bike though and suggest you build it up if it fits you.

I had a Colubus Altec 2 frame. Don't squeeze it with your hands, you'll dent the top tube. Just kidding, but man it dents too easily.

Pretty bike (or rather, Pretty frame!). I'd ride it, that's for sure.

I've seen thrift shops run like department stores (Goodwill Superstore), I've seen them run like a 99-cent store, I've seen them run like a strange discount clubhouse (some Salvation Army stores), and I've seen them run the same way as the Salvation Army - minus the attitude.
Without knowing what type of store the OP was working with, I don't see reason for anyone to begin to criticize the OP in the first place.
That said, it's an aluminum frame from the '90s. I don't care if it is a Colnago, it isn't worth $400. OP and the thrift shop made a fine deal for themselves. Had he not bargained and purchased the frame, it would most likely have:
A. Taken up valuable floor space,
B. Sit around for ages,
and
C. Fail to make the thrift shop any money in the first place.

EDIT: See cudak's post. Fair enough.
Again, nice frame! Do you have any parts to build it up?

Haha, yeah, I was thinking my England built Ellis-Briggs frame should get a Campy build-up, but it's getting Shimano due to cost. Maybe you could just keep an eye out and slowly build it with random deals you find. Or build it with Shimano for cheaper than Campy, but go a little nicer than 105. Still a lot cheaper than Campy, right?

The thrift store got it for free, they made money. The thrift store I have scored most of my bikes is a "for profit".
The goodwills and SA's around here throw away anything that is not rideable and put $50 on rideable boxstore bikes. I have rolled out back to check their "scrap piles" and bought good vintage bikes with flat tires or a missing part for $15 at several locations after finding a manager to go get it.

Nuthin' wrong with Shimano on a Colnago, plenty of pro teams have raced them that way. Don't listen to the "purists", they're generally more uptight than the people who designed, owned and raced the good stuff originally.

Nice find.
You helped a good cause at the right time of the year.
If you have 105, put it on.
I have a carbon fork if you want for the shipping cost.
Not positive it would work, but pm me if you feel like it.
It was on my 1999 Master Extra Light when I bought it.

I have a 1999 Canadian distributor's product list mentioning the Mega Master model with Altec tubing. It's not mentioned in the 2000 list. I don't have a 1998 list, but it's not in the 1997 list, so by elimination it should be 1998 or 1999. No colours mentioned. I imagine it was also available as a frameset, but that may have been a spearate price list, as this one contains mentions bicycles.
FYI, it was equipped with a Colnago Precisa steel fork and was available in 105, for $2599 CDN, so the OP's 105 group would be right at home.

I have to respectfully disagree with you, and all who are suggesting this person somehow ripped off a charitable organization. If what the OP says is true, then this clerk, though not expected to know the value of a Cinelli frameset, had all the information she needed from the guy who donated it to turn down the 75 dollar offer as being not enough. She didn't, and accepted his offer. Why? I'll leave it up to you to wonder why, but the purchaser didn't do anything wrong in my opinion. Feel guilty? Phooey.
It's not personal; it's business.....

Good god that's a nice and sweet frame you found, but I hate you for it!!! I've been searching thrift stores for years hoping to find something at least half as good as that Colnago, but never found anything but Walmart type of bikes. Seriously, great find in great shape I hope you build it up with the Campy components of the era it so richly deserves.

+1, Great find and your offer was fair. As the buyer, you take all the risks that there is a hidden crack or the frame is bent or damaged. I've been stung enough with damage that wasn't very visable and so have many of us.

I would join the others in hating you, but I did once find a JaParamount in the trash with everything but handlebars. Rebuilt it with Shimano 600 (6400 series STI) and sold it for $350

I had a similar vintage/level aluminum Pinarello for a while. I bought the frame set, NOS (including CF fork), from a dealer for $300 delivered. And that's about as much as I'd pay for this time set - but only if it were new and included the fork.
You did well, and the store did well.
