I have committed a C&V sin, bought a bike made in the 90's

So I found a 95 Giant Perigee on CL for $100 that needed some work, Walked out paying $40 for it, along with the bike I got a box of extra's including a few FD's and extra chain, some pedals, a few extra drop bars, bull bars. So all in all not bad I think, frame is 58 and in good shape.

Anyone got any info on a Perigee, Ill get some pics up tomorrow........ Its got some bar end aero brake levers, looks kind cool

I had one last year. Pretty nice bike.

And your sins will be forgiven...I have some atoning to do myself as I'm selling off most of my pre-90's stuff. But it is to fund a very pre-90's craft of lugged frame building so I think it will all even out. And I'm getting rid of the stuff just before winter so I will spend 4 months in the slush and salt abusing my modern bikes instead

Pfftt! Come on, a lugged steel Giant. Good as any other vintage in my book. You won't see another one out on the weekend rides around here, all Crabon Fibre. Almost 20 years old is vintage to most folks.

I find I like the 80's and early 90's bikes best!

Who knows...could be some sub-conscience thing from the days of my lost "youth"!

Looks like a nice bike to me.
At 20 years old it is vintage really imho, I think that this is the best time frame to get a nice road bike for cheap.
Chains, brake pads and cassettes are still easy to find and it was an era when parts started to become standard and interchangeable from a mechanics point of view. I find that this era of Shimano index shifting and braking works well, if not better than some older stuff. I say you did darn well.
Mind you that stem on the 95 Giant Perigee in that photo looks like it has been raised beyond the minimum insertion and would make me nervous on the road.

Here's an idea:

Reverse engineer that Giant back to the '60s-'70s. Cold set the frame to 120mm.

If so equipped, ditch the STI integrated shifters for friction. Run early Suntour gear and DiaComp brakes.

Now that would be a fun project.

Yep,, I've sinned even worse. I replaced my 1980s vintage touring bike with a (gulp) 2000 Trek 520. Hey, it doesn't even have a lugged frame..... So now I have two modern bikes in the keeper fleet (2002 Colnago and 2000 Trek 520), neither of them is even Japanese! (My vintage road fleet is all Japanese made). And most of my vintage bikes have modern drivetrain (STI, modern wheels, etc).

If you like it, it fits, and you ride it, that's really all that matters.

OK, I'll say it:
Shame on you!
Where are your morals, man?
You have drifted over to the dark side - an ignominious coven of brifter-worshiping heretics, bound to burn for eternity!

- But it's not to late to save you, my son: Renounce your evil ways! Your cassette hubs! your aero cables! your cotterless cranks! your sealed bearings! your improved braking!

Me too. Being born in '80, whenever I see an early 80's bike I always think about what I might have been doing when this bike was originally sold, most of the time my answer to that is ****ting my pants.

Fantastic bike!!

Mid 80's to early 90's are my favorite bikes, great era.
I like Giant's from that era. One good thing about it Mike, you don't have to wonder who made the frame .
