funny you mention that! last month a guy in monterey had a black specialissima from 1964 for 500.00!!! i was so excited!!! on craigslist. i went to check it out and the thing was not only a rust bucket but had been in an accident and it had the dimple buy the head tube to prove it. also it had cracks in the campy cranks. i was really bumbed out. those are fantastic bikes. i love those bikes. i just couldnt see buying that one, however. may still be on craigslist for all i know, if anyone is interested

This is a great thread -- the only thing missing is a black ca. 1964 Bianchi Specialissima, but someone in this august group probably has one.

Nice looking bike.

My 18-speed '81 with hubs date stamped 9/80. Posted it towards the top of this thread, but had to seize this opportunity to repost it.

At least the cat goes with the bike. I gotta get a picture of him with my Phillips, the white paws go with the white fender tips and his white tuxedo chest goes with the white headtube. He's a difficult model, though.

A cat with a fine slab of meat in his mouth crossed a bridge over a river and saw his reflection in the water. Thinking it to be another cat with a larger piece of meat he let go his own and dived at the other cat to take it. He surfaced with nothing and his dinner washed away in the current.

Ha, we on the same page/goal/course!!

I got two 79 comps, and one 85 comp.. However, I am dreaming about a PROFESSIONAL TOO.

The Professionals and the Team Professionals are REALLY HARD TO COME BY, and to get the right size too, it is really tough. The ones I see, they want outragous prices. We will keep looking..

Luck to both of us,

ceh

Pretty sneaky Sis!

What size are you looking for? I'm looking for a 57cm.

We can double our efforts if we work together. (But it has to be black so we aren't hijacking this thread :O)

I am 58 to 63cm.. Perfered a 59/60, but will take a 58 or 63. they got a couple on Ebay.. Black too. They have a 78/79 Comp GS silver frame in good shape.
I am looking to swap out the group off the Lemond to a nice vintage Raleigh or Schwinn frame..

BTW, black bikes are the chit!!!

I like that Epic, it reminds me so much of the Giant Cadex I once had with the same tri-color 105 group. Probably made by the same factory. It was quit an impressive ride for what I paid for it. I think the early carbon tubing bonded to alloy lugged frames became a bit of urban legend. I remember doing my first google search after buying the bike and getting hits something akin to Ralph Nadars "Deadly at any Speed" book about the corvair. Then I looked deeper and found that yes, there was some tube loosening issues with the first batch of adhesive, but it was quickly reformulated and the problem was solved. However, the myth still survives and there are some great deals out there on these type of bikes because of it. I bought mine for $40.

This Centurion Elite RS, that I believe is an 85, could use a thorough detailing and eventually a complete rebuild. I’m reluctant to do this right now however, because it is the only built bike I have at the moment. Regardless, it has a very nice and compliant ride quality.

It's been a rough year Dark Ivan, and I'll be glad to have it behind me. I'm beginning to catch my second wind however, Rossin frame is on the way (I think) and am still in the hunt for an all-rounder rando type frame to build. 2011 may just be the year I can build the herd back. Thank You Tho!

I really, really like this. It screams for fluted aluminum fenders and a black or honey Brooks though...mmmm...
