Vintage Bicycle/Vintage Cars
Looking at my 85 Raleigh Prestige and the way it has turned out, it ranks right up there with my vintage cars..I have never owned a 4 seat car or a car with a auto tranny in my whole lifetime..Just not in me..
With that said, my 85 Raleigh Prestige(all she need now is a black seat post).. is right up there with my vintage cars in ride/looks and joy...

Wow. 80s Japanese cars are vintage already? I'm old.
Seriously, rotary engines are way cool. A buddy of mine in high school had an orange RX-2 that we all turned our noses up at till he burned rubber all the way out of the parking lot and down the street. He bought it really cheap, like $200. I haven't seen another since.

Oh, I have 2 chevy novas, a 71 and a 72, both the last of the good 60's body style and both restored. They have back seats too!! All i need now is a vintage bike, looking everyday for a sweet deal...

I'm into old cars and bikes. I restored my 55 Chevy a few years ago and last year did the bike (86 Schwinn Super Sport) in a similar motif. Restoring a bike is a lot easier/cheaper than a car but utilizes similar skills.............

Man I love 1st gen RX's!! Nothing but turbine smooth power, with a buttload of noise..... I had a buddy with a Turbo 2 that was eerily quiet though. When he was on course all you could hear was some tire noise and suspension working.
I almost bought a very nice '86 built up as a DSP autocrosser, but ended up getting an old F500 car instead, more noise, more G's, but much more painful to drive.
So do you have all these now, or is this a progression? They all look great, but I like the silver '85 best.
Oh, and Jet sanChez, for the love of God, grab that P1800! I have a fetish for old Swedish iron. Nothing wrong with being car-lite, especially when it's a classic.

Yup. Most beautiful car I'll ever own and I've had a few. Had a 3rd baby, though. The FV was a real project. I found it behind a barn.
That Volvo, have you driven it yet? I had a 244 wagon of that vintage. Same chasis with a few hundred more pounds. I loved that car. If I had the money, I'd get it.
I've still got the sad remains of a '58 Karmann Ghia. Next time I take the cover off of it I'll take some digital pictures. The cover has been on it since I switched from film

I had an old 1973 164E as a kid (hand-me-down from my dad) and loved the hell out if it, they are such amazing cars. I was lucky to learn how to drive on such a great automobile.

My sister bought a white one from the first model year. For Christmas that year, I bought her a leather-covered shifter knob with an embedded Triumph logo medallion. It had real spoked wheels, knock off hubs,... It was the first car I ever drove - up and down the driveway. Some of the local kids were so jealous of that nice car, they popped open the non-locking gas cap and poured sugar into the tank. The engine was destroyed and she got rid of the car.

I wish I had the space for a 1st gen RX7. I have owned 3, and wrecked 2. I would love another GSLSE, and will own onE again bEfore I die. That was the first car I ever bought that Was less than 10 years old. I bought my first one (an 85) in 1991. Sexy little cars.

I have one that's being considered a vintage ride now. It's a 1989 CRX Si. I always wanted one when they came out, but I bought a sportbike instead.
I stumbled across this one 12 years ago. I was restoring it, then I got married. It survived the divorce, and I took it with me to PHX. My 2nd wife is very gung-ho about old sports cars, and looks forward to me finishing this project (she finds it cute). I've updated the clutch, brakes, suspension, added a header and S.S. catback. I have the interior to do, some bodywork and repaint. It should be fun on track days and autocrossing.

it is a Triumph GT6 - a hardtop ('coupe') Spitfire with the Triumph 2 litre straight 6 shoe-horned in, apparently good for 120 mph with overdrive when new, though rather you than me.

'Vintage car' is a term coined in 1934 or so by a bunch of guys who founded the VSCC (vintage sports car club) in England. It was coined because the new cars of the Depression were appalling compared to the secondhand cars from the better manufacturers of the 1920s, which were better-made, better-handling, and better-braked. In other words, like vintage wine..
And this is NOT a term that 'changes' with time and usage like "gay' or 'pathracer' (as argued elsewhere in this Forum)
I make no apologies, I am adamant that 1980s Mazdas are NOT vintage.
Shoot me, I don't care. Perhaps the term can be used w.r.t. the Raleigh, but not the cars. That definition w.r.t. cars was set in stone 80 years ago, and is not up for retrospective bastardisation
