It doesn't look too bad, I've seen a lot worse on newer bikes. Looks like '99 is the winner. This should have had a triple crankset on it but perhaps the previous owner took off the granny.

Hi, I just returned from being stationed overseas out of Sigonella, Sicily! While I was there, I came across an older model Bianchi road bike that I am trying to identify the age of! The only number that I can find on the frame that is anything close enough to a serial number is on the front part beneath the handlebars and right above the square Bianchi logo which is: 309685.

There are a few decals on it, of course four of them just say Bianchi but there is the remnants of another decal that states " print 28t " which I can only conclude is supposed to say " Sprint 28t " Other than this, that is all that I can find! I want to say that it looks like a late 70's early 80's model but I am clueless! I have a pic if anyone is interested. Thanks!

Hello all! First post here. I have been tracking this thread from the outside for a couple weeks now ever since finding a great deal on CL.
I was looking for ways to identify this bicycle as a Bianchi as the seller claimed it was. But with a new paintjob and after market decals I wasnt entirely sure from just the photos so I started looking for sources and that led me here.

BianchiGirl you are absolutely amazing at what you do for everyone on here and I sincerely hope you can work some of your magic for me here.

So here are the details.
First off... The owner did not care for this bike very well. He admitted to leaving it on his porch most of the time... even in rain. SO there is some rust here and there.
The bike has the following parts marked with Bianchi:
Wheel Hubs
Stem
Handle Bars
Seat Post

All of the components have been removed and it has been converted to fixed gear.
The frame is extremely light.
The bottom bracket measures 70mm across leading me to believe it is Italian made if I have done my research correctly?
I can not find a stamp anywhere on the frame at all, aside from the Serial on the bottom bracket which reads : 7H6617759 (some of it is extremely hard to read so this is my best guess)
According to what I have read here, this leads me to believe it is either an 86 or a 96.

So that is all the info I have. Here are some attached photos that I hope can help you help me.

This is the bike that was stripped of the components and converted to a fixed gear? It is actually a Pista or track bike was built as fixed gear. The front brake was actually added to this bike. I'll have to do some research but it is closer a '98 than an '86 and probably much newer.

Sigonella? I haven't been through there in...in.. well a few years. Had a few good times in the little bar/hotel across the road from the gate.

anyway a Bianchi straight from Italy? nice. I see no reason to doubt it isn't a Bianchi I am sure there are much more prestigious brands to copy over there. I don't know a lot about European Bianchis but this looks like lower model like out Strada or Strada LX, good solid basic bikes. From the decals I would say it is a mid '80s model and I agree the name looks like Sprint 28t, perhaps refering to a 28t large cog on the original freewheel?

Can you post some more information about the components or frame tubing?

After some further research, I think I have wittled it down. I am 90% positive it is a 2006 Pista frame set.
The person I purchased from was the second owner. He said the original owner stated it was the "gang green" color before stripping and repainting.

The only other info that I have on this bike is as follows: All original Bianchi fittings with road LOOK pedals. Huret rear derailleur with Shimano 8 speed sprocket.

I don't know what more to say about the tubing that you are looking for? Can you give me some hints?

And I am definitely amazed that you know about Day's Inn or The Sigonella Inn across from NAS I!!! Very awesome! Spent three and a half years there! I picked this pick up along with a Bianchi Ducati Monster 600 Mountain Bike at the barracks! People kept leaving them there when the transferred so I was able to get my hands on these two.

Yes the Sigonella Inn where you can get a pizza with an egg on it! We used to stop there a lot in the KC-10 when I first got on air crew then for some reason I didn't get through there anymore. I was stuck in Al Udeid with a broke jet once and I kept eyeing this old Hercules that I was sure was long abandoned, I just never got to nerve to check it out. Odds are had I just aired up the tires and started riding it, no one would have said a word.

There might be a gold decal that says some like Calibrati or something like that. The Hurret definitely marks it as a European model and like I said is probably a basic model like the U.S. market Strada LX

It looks like a good rider. I would consider some new skewers, maybe some nice blue ones, just to get rid of the rusty ones. If the shifters give you trouble a pair of Suntour Power ratchet shifters would a great upgrade.

Obtained this frame/fork recently along with 3 boxes of bike “stuff.” Seller said some of the parts for the frame might be in the boxes. Seller also included Ukai 700 wheel set that he said were original to the bike

The only other parts that I found I thought might be original were the 600 Arabesque drs and shifters.

Only other possible identifiers are: Tange stamped in fork drops/Shimano stamped into rear drops.

Decal on this frame says Super. Not Super Pista or Super Junk, just Super. It feels light, not like hi-ten but more like cro-mo.

My research turned up very little info. I couldn’t even find a reference to or photos of the frame except that Piaggio purchased the name and had bikes manufactured in Japan for about 1981 to 1985.

What do I have here, middle of the road model or bottom feeder? My guess is an early to mid 80’s Japanese built bike.

I was looking for a cheap rider buildup from my parts stash but there is a headset issue has me wondering. When I placed the fork in the head tube it seemed way too long. (I found traces of the same color paint on the fork tube so I believe it is original) but it doesn’t seem that “normal sized” races and bearings will pick up that much “slack.”

Before I saw the extra from the fork tube if it has sufficient threads to fit properly, I don’t want to ruin something that may be of value. Head cups and odd piece show in case they might be applicable

One final request, I was unable to find a diagram showing the exact parts for the shifters shown. Any help anyone?

Hi Okane sorry I missed this but I was kinda busy the end of last week and this must have fallen off the front page pretty quick.

What you have there is super middle of the road. That is an '81 Super in Metallic Ivory, All Bianchi Chrome Moly DB tubing and fork. The fork originally only had the crown and 'tips' chromed but it looks like someone stripped the rest of the paint.

Once you install the headset (HS) parts the fork should fit. The bottom bearing race should take up a 1/2" or so and will drop that plain shank section down in the tube.

Looks like a fun project. It looks like that 600 stuff was OEM on this.

Will be heading to my LBS in the near future for headset. ONe more questions if I may. The paint is not as good as it looks in the photo, but not what I would consider bad. However I have in mind to paint it red (no decals). I'm not the greatest (or the worst) painter in the world and would be using automotive paint and paint *** and have done bikes before with respectable results. Basically what I am asking, is there any collector value to this one?

does anybody know who manufactured the Japanese bianchis?
I recently picked up a 1988 bianchi Brava and have been wondering who built it.
it looks like an ironman to me but that might be because of the fork.
it has a unicrown for
full 6 speed shimano 105 with a tange Levin cd headset.
serial number is ks772768 incase that helps at all.

I am pretty sure the spelling is wrong but I believe the company was Miredia or something like that. Our Sales Rep made a big deal out of mentioning it at Interbike in '89 but I think that was also the year a lot of lower end bikes to moved to Taiwan so maybe that was the Taiwan factory.


'88 or '87? The '88 would have the Bianchi decal style with the line running through it smooth seatstay caps and Celeste colored tubing decal and be black or red. The '87 would have the short lived but classic "flag" decal, Bianchi stamped on the caps and gold/black Tange tubing sticker and is black or turquoise (would love to find on of those my size)

its an 88.
black with a darker Celeste color decals with a line running through.
the decal is Celeste colored and says superset tange cromor double butted.
the dropouts say bianchi.
the paint looks like it was powder coated or just applied really thick and the decals look like stickers.
I thought it was a repaint at first
I like the bike but the only thing that bugs me is the unicrown fork.

That is a bit of bummer. I wonder why put a unicrown on that and kept the crown on the Sport SX, as they still shared the same frame. The makeup seems very similar to my '87 Sport SX and that was a great rider so I am sure this one is too.

Got this Bianchi at Goodwill , it's been painted. it has Exage sport groupset ...dont know the year.
serial # is: JS767015
can someone please tell me?







The serial number is on the bottom bracket and then theres this #8 stamped on there on the other side ???

Hello all,

I am looking for some info on this vintage Bianchi I have. It has a full Shimano 600 set and serial number LS17571. Here's a few pics, any info appreciated. I've only changed the saddle and the tires while I've owned it. Also, is there any way to determine the frame size from the s/n? I don't see anything on the bike that shows the size.

i know cuz i'am the one that painted it about 11 years ago, kinda wish i didnt, ... it was i think that foam green color.. and it says bianchi on one of the drop outs.

The frame predates the group by around 3-4 years. I think the frame is a '83ish Limited made with Ishawata 022 tubing. Can you post a better pic of the back of the brake bridge? It looks like someone crushed the bridge a bit putting those recessed nuts in there. The is a concave washer with a hole big enough for that nut go through, you really need one of those.

You didn't say you painted it just that it was painted. If it was Celeste it was a Sport SX judging by the Exage Sport group.
