@Shrevvy great bike and wonderful story you being the original owner. I hope the miles pile up for you again. Don't read much about these models in the Schwinn lineup. That saddle really follows the colour scheme!

Thanks guys. The bike shop gave me a white saddle, but I like the original better. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the white hoods are missing. They disintegrated when he removed them. I'll have to keep an eye for some serviceable hoods on eBay or elsewhere. I do love the 1980s paint schemes. This is one of my favorites too. I remember deciding between this and the laser yellow/white Prelude (also liked that paint) at the time.

Yep the 80s had great colors. The blue seat looks great on that premis! Update shakedown ride pic from today on the prelude. Had the shop tune up the rear wheel put on some 25s and so far I dig it. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...psktn5u2i0.jpg

Unfortunately the paint is real rough in person. I thought I'd start with the fork to possibly match up a color to original pink. But....the polished look of the fork looks pretty cool. Work in progress.

Just finished this '86 Super Sport. Not a keeper, but some new owner will be very happy with it.
Purchased the bare frame from Bluesdaddy a couple of months ago. New blue powdercoat and Velocals make it pretty, 6400 7 speed Tricolor makes it fast and bulletproof. Wheels are 6400 hubs laced to Mavic Reflex blue anodized rims, stem and bars are both SR. Great, quick, fine-handling Columbus framed bike. Here's my '85 Tempo that I posted in another thread. I have ridden approximately 100 miles on it.

The determining factor was that I had a Mavic Open Sport Wheelset with Shimano 105 (5700 series) hubs. It's running a 2x10 50-34/11-32 drivetrain. I kept the Shimano 600 friction shifters that came with the frame since it came with those proprietary Shimano shifter bosses. This was a CL find that I rebuilt, a 1986 Schwinn Passage, normally I rebuild and then sell but this ones a keeper.

I did end up building this Super Sport with the traveling Campy groupset and was nonplussed with its performance. It's was the mushy 10-speed Campy and some other small details and overall aesthetic composition that, to me, had trouble 'committing' to a look, even as I tried hard to aim it. Stripped the frame, components go to other bikes, the frame sits, but not before I buy a (used) matching white water bottle cage. Believe it or not, the matching-to-the-paint red and white bottle cages are what kept me from selling the frame (well, after building it up to do so). The thinking went, "I can't sell a bike with cool matching bottle cages! I gotta give this thing another shot."
Off goes a full set of 6400 parts from my '84 Super Sport and onto this. Bingo. This thing is looking good! Time for pictures and a test ride. Ride Report: This is the, presumably standard Schwinn upper-end road bike feel. Geometry is very similar to same-year/era Prologues. Differences between it and the Paramount are 58cm TT vs 59cm TT for the Paramount, and 49mm of calculated trail (50mm fork rake) vs 60mm of calculated trail (40mm fork rake). HT and ST angles between all bike are identical. I like me some sub-50mm trail, so this fits the bill. I will swap out the cool-looking-but-uncomfortable (to me) Turbo saddle for a newer Prologo (also black, don't worry) and re-ride. For now though, the basic attributes of solid, stable yet agile, if a little punishing, are the names of the game. Good bike. Got me some 89 Tempo!
Hello Vintage Schwinn road bike enthusiasts! I took a test ride yesterday on my 89 Schwinn Tempo. Very smooth and comfortable! For a 28 year old bike I was amazed how nicely it shifted and rolled. The only downside was that the quill stem is too long for my 59 year old back and neck. It looks classy and cool with that Cinelli stem and bars. But for comfort, I really need a shorter stem, like 90 mm maybe. I'm going to have to look around for a shorter stem. Maybe someone can refer me to the appropriate place to hunt down a shorter stem.
