Yes. That is an awesome trifecta of 80s goodness,Tyler Fred. Yellow seat rocks on that nicely done tempo.

1987 Schwinn Super Sport
I finished my paint "touch up" on the Super Sport and am in the process of putting it back together. The mechanic and my LBS informed me that the shifter cable guide that attaches to the bottom of the BB shell with a screw is the wrong one. Dr. Cannondale was kind enough to send it to me quite a while ago. Unfortunately, that one is plastic and the part that inserts into the hole is too big. Matt, who manages the LBS in my area recalls that he used to sell those bike back in the late 80s and says that the cable guide that I need would be a metal one with a smaller male part that inserts into the hole in the BB shell with a screw. I'm going to post on the ISO thread to see if I have any luck. Thanks to everyone that gave me helpful advice on touch up paint and Doc as well.

I blame you folks!! If you had not been raving about late '80s Schwinns and Tenax tube sets and the 1987 Voyageur specifically I would have not paid attention when I came across this. I don't really need another bike (but I do need a winter project) but this one could not be passed up (cost less than a case of beer). So, my first Schwinn since 1968, first touring bike, first Biopace, first indexed DT shifters, first 40 spoke wheel. This one should be fun and it's just my size. If only I can resist messin with it until November.

Can you post a picture of the bottom of your BB shell?

Hardrock 23
I used Testors Magenta paint and then added Testors blue and red to darken the Magenta just enough to match the frame. About 12-15 parts magenta to 1 part blue and red. Just mixed the paints together until I got a close match. For the white I used straight out of the bottle but the white didn't match the white on the frame very well. Tyler Fred Here are some pics of the BB shell. http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/...pswkmhjzgz.jpg |
Here are a couple more pics of Schwinn SS BB shell.
https://webmail.west.cox.net/do/mail...IM47792&part=2 https://webmail.west.cox.net/do/mail...IM47791&part=2 The cable guide in hand is too big to fit into the hole in the bottom bracket shell. My LBS mechanic thinks the Schwinn SS came with a metal cable guide with a smaller plug that screws into the BB shell. |
If the hole in the BB shell is threaded then I would think that a plastic guide would work. Show us the two sides of your plastic donor guide.

Prowler Aha, The 87 Imperial Rose' color, very nice. I have a 21" the 88 Emerald Green, and really like the frame, not so much the color. However, the Green and the Clearcoat has held up very well. Is yours a 23"??? Replaced the wheels with 700c A319s (7Sp freehub) and the Biopace with a Sugino XD2. Did not care much for the 1/2 step gearing, although it was fun to look down when pedaling and see the chainrings move front to back. A few people commented on it on rides, "why does your chain ring move bac and forth???" If your in the greater Philly area, we should have a "Schwinn Tenax" ride, invite the DC people. South Jersey is very flat John Hawrylak Woodstown NJ |
I tried using nail polish but had no luck. Testors paint worked much better for me

I like rides, even flat rides. If you build it they might come. I'll not likely be ready with this Schwinn until next spring. |
[QUOTE=Prowler;19730543]Donno about inches - this frame's ST is 58cm c-c and TT 57cm c-c.
58cm C-C = 58.5cm C-T = 23"... you have a V23. They made frame sizes V19, V21, V23, V25, all are C-T. What is the Stand Over Height. My 21" is 79.7cm (630-32 tires). I expected the 23' frame SOH to be 84-85cm |

I suggest replacing the brake levers with aero types (Tektro R341's) to minimize the cable. The BB spindle is 121.5mm for the FCB 124 Biopace triple. The 88 had Malliard hubs which were OK but the hub race and cones had pitting. I was able to get new cones, but the hub race had minor pitting. I also used a Technomic 225mm stem to get bars even with saddle |

The 88' prelude. I'm no good at taking pictures of my bike, I think i'm the last person in the world with an iphone 4. I love the way it looks and it's really starting to ride smooth and fast, but it never seems photogenic. Just one of those bikes that looks best in person I think. Let me know whatcha think of it as I've been working on it and riding it for the last two years, and am finally feeling like the bike is 'done'. I had upload some pictures a few weeks ago of this bike but they weren't good shots, I wanted to post again to show it out on a ride.

Hey everybody. I just picked this 1987 Circuit up out of Chicago about a week ago. The guy that I bought it from does paintwork for Colnago and had done a repaint on this bike about 5 years ago. Also around that time a friend of his who also worked at Colnago gathered up some 105 components stripped by other employees who had upgraded and built up the bike for the guy I bought it from. He had upgraded a few things since then, including the wheels and saddle right before I bought the bike.
Anyways I believe I got an excellent deal on the bike and took it for its first proper ride tonight. Though I don't have much to compare it to the bike felt incredibly smooth and fast. Took these pictures while out on the ride http://i.imgur.com/31YQksu.jpg http://i.imgur.com/76zuxG2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/sqWzshO.jpg |
Looks very nice. I enjoy the ride quality of my '87 Circuit.

Thought I would share the last buildup of my 88 Tempo. The frame has since been moved on to another Foum member. Very nice rider that often took back seat to my 87 Super Sport and my 91 Paramount.
