Question for Vintage Bike Folks - Motobecane Le Champion

Have a chance to buy a vintage bike in Hawaii. Ad details as follows:

Motobecane Le Champion racing bicycle, 62 cm from top tube to crank, 27" wheels and tires, all original Campagnola components, chrome-moly frame, vintage pump, an original Blackburn rack, extra set of 27" Veinmann wheels and tires (made in Belgium). This bike is all original and in very good condition, a classic.

He's asking $350. This bike will be used as a commuter/recreation road rider (about 15-20 miles/day couple of times a week).

Yay or nay?

Oh man, great deal. Thats the top-o-the-line Moto, other than the Team Champion which was very low production.
Big frame. Hope you are over 6 foot.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

Check for damage in person, but otherwise grab it.

Edit: Move fast! Frequently, when people post here asking for advice, it takes too long to get our opinions and they miss out.

This thread may also get moved to appraisals soon.

If it's your size I'd jump on it.
I've noticed that bikes in HI tend to be high-priced, but that's not bad.
I've also noticed that bikes in HI tend to be rust prone, so check it out carefully.

Offer to confirm the deal with a PayPal down payment - don't wait. The Campy group itself is worth the price and the bar end shifters are nice. Post with pictures when the bike is secured.

Dad has one of these. He lets me ride it when I go home to visit. I really like to ride it a lot.

By all means, make a down-payment - but pull the seatpost and stem before you commit fully! I spent four years riding in Hawaii, and as an earlier post notes: rust can be a problem! Check for oxidation closely!!

Nice find at a super-nice price if it's rust-free.

If the seat post is jammed, should I pass it by? I've heard of stories of seat posts being impossible to remove.

I wouldn't go as far as "impossible".
