I did not know a '81 Nouvo Alloro came with mismatched steel 27" wheels. if he can get 5K for this sheetbox there is no telling what I can get for one of my rare custom assembled one of kind Bianchis.

In addition, I'm pretty sure it was MADE IN JAPAN.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

It's definitely a joke and definitely quite funny...the only question is if the seller is in on the joke. I never underestimate the stupidity of my fellow man...I'm not so sure.

There were people who thought Spinal Tap was a real band. It's remarkable that the same thing can be either diabolically bad or diabolically clever.

Speaking of...I saw Spinal Tap live about 20 years ago and they had an opening act listed called A Mighty Wind (this was well before the movie). They came out, playing folks music...and everyone is booing like mad. My friend and I looked at one another and realize what's going on...it's Spinal Tap in different wigs. Even people who went to a Spinal Tap show and who would conceivably understand that humor didn't get it.

Is that a dork disc I see in the lower-left quadrant of the photo collage? Yes, it is!
I also like how he gives the frame size as "TALL - REALLY TALL". After all, if you spent $7500 on this beauty you're going to mount it in your office, too, and never ride it so size doesn't matter, right?

OMG I could not resist asking the seller a few questions. his answer was both vauge and as entertaining as is posting.
here is my message to him (yes I could not resist playing Ebay bike police but I did not directly say he is full of well you know)
what a fabulous Bianchi. this rare item would be perfect for my collection. I have a few questions before I bid though. how original is this bike? I do not see a Nouvo Alloro listed in the '81,'82'83 catalogs. there is one listed in the '84 catalog but it has Campagnolo deraileurs not sunrace. also was the fork replaced?
the Celeste decal looks like a tubing decal for '85/86 production years. does that make this some rare prototype? also are the wheels steel ot alloy? I noticed you mentioned a innertube. I would have thought such a rare bike would have tubulars but I guess that is a another great feature of this bike.
I will be in NJ this week would it be possible to come and see it? perhaps take it for a test ride?
OH speaking of test ride just how tall is the frame? I normally ride a 59cm is this close?
thanks for you help and thanks for offering such a beautiful rare bike for sale.
here is his response
Hello,
Do you have a name? Thanks for the compliments..to answer your questions,my Nuovo Alloro in Ferrari red,you will not see it in a catalog - this '81 Nuovo Alloro was special ordered from the Bianchi factory by my Uncle who was stationed overseas in Italy-he was an avid tour competitor & raced the tour circuit. This bike is 98% complete. My uncle takes pride in NOT cannibalizing nor swapping out parts. The forks were not replaced, they are original to the bike & are Foderi Forcella BIANCHI Especial Columbus"forks. The bike you see in the '84 catalog is a NouvA Alloro my bike is a NouvO Alloro there is a distinction. Bianchi Corp stopped making the NuovO Alloro for 1-2 years so the NuovA Alloro was made available in '84. All the decals are ORIGINAL to this bike.I inherited it from my uncle because I'm one of the few riders in my family tall enough to handle this bike.FYI you need to be at least 5'10" or taller to comfortably handle this bike. I have had to turn down offers from shorter riders because I know they will not be able to handle the bike & will end up either ruining the bike or hurting themselves or both. I don't know if it's a prototype but I know that my Uncle had it special order straight from the factory & had it air-transported courtesy of the USAF. I have to check if the wheels are steel or alloy, I don't remember - I own 20 or so bikes it's hard to keep track. I think my Uncle specifically ordered his rims to accommodate inner tubes, that's how I got it. I'm not going to switch to tubulars just because my other Bianchi-philes friends say that "that's what my bike should have". It came that way,it stays that way.As for a test ride, I will have to DECLINE unless you're the WINNING BIDDER. I would consider doing a private sale if you bring CASH but the price stays the same & I will discount the shipping cost to half if you come & pick-up the bike. I have the bike stored in a temp-controlled facility. How tall are you? Do you have an email address?CIAO, L.
air shipped courtsey of the US Air Force? discount shipping by half if I pick it up? LOL

So he'll only charge $175 for you to come by and pick it up? Very generous...

I choose to believe he's very well aware of what he's up to.
I'm taking it as excellent commentary on the "collectible" market.
.....and further evidence of why I am avoiding ebay and CL whenever possible.
I saw the same thing in December with a fellow that was selling a dry rot infested "racing" sailboat.
A 40 year-old x-boat for $4000! He was pretty funny as well.
