Looking to get a bike for the GF so we can do some leisure rides, and I'm forcing her to go C/V ;) This one has been listed a few times, it's down to $150 now and I am considering it but I thought I'd check with y'all to see if that price was reasonable and if there were any issues to be aware of with that make/model...
Vintage Univega Metroten 10 speed street/commuter bike. All original parts. Suntour shifters/derailleurs, 27 inch street tires, quick release centerpull brakes, all aluminum/ chromolly construction. This bike is light, fast, and looks great. You won't find one in this condition again.

It looks perfect for leisure rides. It also already has fenders, bonus. I'd ride it. In my market, 150 is not a big stretch, but that stuff can be all over the place. Hopefully, your girlfriend is not that tall, since this bike is likely about 48-49 cm. I think it may actually have cantilever brakes (based on a google search). Kinda unique for an '80s mixte.

She's actually quite short (I wanna say 5'3"), I was hoping it wouldn't be too tall for her! She's coming with me if we do end up deciding to go check it out so we'll find out then, in the meantime I emailed him for specs and hopefully better pics.

A mint shape Cromoly mixte for $150 is a good deal.

And, 5'3" isn't short for a woman. It is the average height for a woman. At least, that is what my wife tell me. :p

deleterious, if your GF wants a bike to ride with you then let her pick it. don't force her to chose anything. if you like the bike buy it for you, but don't try and talk her into it. if she does not like it after a week it will be your fault

however I like that Metro 10 it is a nice looking bike. too bad the camera was foggy

Most Univega were contract built by Miyata, who was arguably the best of the Japanese, mass production manufacturers. They were well engineered, reliable and good value. Provided it fits, hasn't been abused or worn out, it's hard to go wong with Miyata or Univega. It appears to be a early 1980s model, in which case the CrMo is almost certainly restricted to the main triangle. The fork and stays are likely hi-tensile steel. I'm more familiar with its mid-1980s successor, the Metro Prix, but both were good city bicycles. Be aware the $150 price is probably not too far off the original price but in to-day's market, if want a brand name bicycle in decent condition, you typically have to venture into that territory.

Ahh I was just joking about forcing her, but I've definitely got her on "our team" now in that she prefers the looks of older bikes. It wasn't hard, she's naturally into vintage stuff like I am so I just had to show her lots of pictures. And I wouldn't let her ride a bike that didn't fit her or wasn't appropriate for her needs.

And thanks everyone for the advice, we're gonna go check out the bike as soon as we can. I'll post better pictures if we end up grabbing it.
