    Repairing seat of Fuji bike.

The '82 Fuji Monterey I am restoring has a 1+ inch slit in the top of the vynl(?) seat. The material is a black textured leatherette type. Have used some dark textured tape but not happy with it. Any suggestions (other than using a different seat) for a really invisible job. Was thinking maybe I could mold the texture of the adjacent area and use some sort of RTV rubber to create a good blended repair. That seems too time and cost-heavy for the low budget approach I am taking to this bike.

I got a sheet of thin fabric backed black vinyl, and used vinyl repair glue, and recovered the whole seat.
I also used fabric spray glue on the main area, because it covers better, but the vinyl repair glue holds much better at the perimeter where it has to grip the seat base.
If you trim away the old vinyl around where it glues to the underside, it will be easier to affix the new layer.
It isn't exactly an easy job, but a thinner material makes it easier.

Khatfull is able to recover those. He seems to do a fine job of it too. Not sure of what he charges.

Trying to keep my costs at a minimum so may just hold onto the original seat and use one of the others I have on hand. The seat is embossed along the edges and has the name "Fuji" on the rear so the idea of recovering the whole thing as a unit would not work so well. Will try to get a photo of the particular challenge I am facing.
