An interesting Columbus SL opportunity!
Local builder supreme, Bradley Wilson, of Capricorn bike re-known has unearthed two framesets worth of Columbus SL.
This is a chance to build a pretty nifty "custom" road bike just the way you like it.
...and he is tossing in some incentives to get you to bite.
I am in the process of getting a new Croll frameset painted and built as we speak, or I think I'd bite.
Just something for folks to consider.

There is an interview with him from last year that mentions his history.
I like this super fast back seat cluster.
The brass ornaments are neat too.
Q: How long have you been building bikes? What have you learned about the craft over time?
A: I started building frames at Waterford Precision Cycles in the late 90's and worked there for a couple years before moving up to Minneapolis to go to school.

Great ideas about builds.
I've seen his bikes popping up around town.
Met the builder by chance two years ago on a ride along our Greenway, the bicycle autobahn.
I'd go with Athena or this 2009 Centaur gruppo that is waiting here patiently!
I don't dare call him, as I'll end up with yet another frameset!

thank you for the complement. i see inspiration in a lot of places with bikes, cars, and motorcycles. it would be a bad thing if i could play out all my ideas.
the above build really has my interest. i wish i could execute it but the wedding, future house, and fiancee's student loans are more important.

Boooo!!!!
"Due to the limitations of this lightweight tubeset I probably won't be able to accommodate sizes over 60cm, or riders over ~185 pounds."
Too bad for me. Looks like he does good work.

correct. SL is still available.
i also have been in casual communication with the frame builder and these are not custom frames. they are hand built "to order" frames. he seems like a great guy that does very nice work.

am I confused about what is being offered? Seems like there is a reasonable supply of this, and it's actually cheaper than it was a year ago. Link

I'll call for clarification.
Very nice guy and quite talented.
You should see his touring bikes from True Temper!
Fancy.

Not a custom build, and I stand corrected.
...and not 30 year old SL either.
Although, I have several 30 year old SL framed bikes and I am quite fond of them.
Fact remains, that he makes some of the nicest framesets I've seen around.
Let's consider this clarified!

...and "correct" details are here.

Well worth a look I'd say.
...and sorry for the inaccurate info.

Having ridden a handbuilt Columbus SL frame (my Ciocc San Cristobal) since 1986, I can safely say that you can't beat the quality of the ride! Columbus SL (when properly brazed-up in just the right geometry) totally RULES!

no, that seat stay style has been around for quite some time, it isn't going to help you id the frame that easily. Yours apparently is built around a seat lug with the stock ears cut off and replaced by a machined piece. This was done in the '70s on Treks and Proteus (they sold a frame kit with this feature). And many builders did the same before that.
