Bianchi Strada LX

I just bought a Strada LX for $100 (good paint, but in bad working order). I was wondering whether anyone knows if the stays are HiTen? I know the fork is because there is a label that says "High Tension" on it. The sticker in the triangle says it's CrMo. Aslo, anyone know if it's butted CrMo?

The reason I ask is I'm trying to decide whether this would be a good candidate to tear down and retrofit with STI shifters for my girlfriend. It would be either this or the Fuji Del Rey that I have lying around. Which one would give a more comfortable ride? The Del Rey has Quad-Butted VaLite tubes, which I know nothing about. I need to tear down the Bianchi and compare frame weights. The Strada has some pretty heavy stuff on it... esepcially the Sakae crank with steel chainrings.

My vote is to build up the Del Rey. Its an excellent sport touring frame. I had a Strada (not LX) and it appeared to be straight gauge Tange 5. Maybe the LX is different. Having owned both bikes, the Del Rey seems to be much livelier.

The sticker on the downtube just says "Chrome-Moly" on a Bianchi sticker. So far, I'm leaning towards the Del Rey.

I am pretty sure they are HiTen but I am out of town and can't check for sure. in the late '80s bikes like the Sport SX and Brava were still coming with mangalloy stays so I agree these are HiTen.

That but Blue and White

It's a nice bike, but I don't know if it's worthy of investing the Tiagra Shifters + 105 wheelset I have on hand on it. Maybe it's a flipper.

Yeah, mine's just a stand in frame (because it fits) till I fine one that fits the components better. It's nice, but not NIIICE. I kept all of the original stuff so I can sell it later as original.

That bikes made in italy or japan. The Strada LX models sold in the US in the late 1980s and early 1990s were built in the Orient most likely Taiwan

How that bike ride i see you have same bike. My bike is weight around 27 pounds. In the 1989 US market Bianchi catalog the weight is listed as 24.5lbs

Is worth i keep that bike and ride? Yes. It is a pretty basic Chromoly and HiTen frame/fork but should be a good and fun rider. It might even be more comfortable than your aluminum bike

I have one aluminum road bike with 9 speeds cassete i put the wheel on the bianchi is fit and gears change good in the friction side. If the original wheels are usable they will likely give a better ride.

Have downtube shifters. In my opinion these are much better than the brake shifter combinations, because you can set them to friction.

Any info for that bike is help me i see your bike you make look much better than is was new. As listed in the US catalog it is a ChroMoly frame (but I am not sure if the stays are chromo or HiTen) with a Hiten fork. The brakes and crankset are shimano Exage Motion, the shifters and derailleurs are Exage Action. There is a shimano 6sp uniglide freewheel with a KK brand hubs laced to Araya rims.

My bianchi have crank 52/42 oval you think i try put crank 53/39? Using a 42/52 or a 39/52 or 53 is a matter of personal choice. I used to always ride 42/53s but I got sick earlier this year so I dropped to a 39 to try and spin more to keep my heart rate higher and try and prevent building more muscle mass but instead tone more.

I want see in bike trail i ride if i can keep up with newer lightweight bikes and i want do century with that bike
I hope this answers some of your questions. Of course if you do not have a 1989 Strada LX like this white one all the information on the specifics of the bike is wrong for your model year.

30 minutes isn't a lot of time to wait for a reply on a Saturday night. I read your post 4 times trying to figure it out and I got a headache trying to keep reading it.

The following information would be helpful for us to help you.

The location of you and your Strada LX.

A few good pictures of your bike showing some of the components and the overall condition of the bike.
