More pictures - 73 Paramount

This '73 Paramount started life as an all chrome bike but evidently the chrome was in very bad shape as the previous owner had it powder coated all black except for the rear dropouts and head tube lugs. The fork is unfortunately not original but is a Bianchi fork with chrome dropouts. I am on the lookout for an appropriately sized fork with the Nervex crown.

My 1973 is painted red at the factory, but has chrome chainstays, seatstays and lugs. Did the prevoius owner tell you that the frame was all chrome? It clearly has been repainted.

1972 was the last year Paramounts were available from the factory with an all-chrome finish, so if it's a '73 and was completely chromed, it wasn't done by the factory.

My '72 is all chrome. I think they must have been available special order from Schwinn in chrome as a friend of mine got one direct around 74-75. I ran into him some years later and asked him if he still had it. He said no, it broke, but Schwinn replaced it with a more modern, painted one.

I have a Nervex-crown Paramount fork off of K72331 - not sure if it is the new-geometry fork or not though. Will check.

Powder coated actually and really not very well done. Very thick and they put on the cable clamps and brakes and shifter clamp before it was dry/cured all the way which left nice deep indentations. I kind of got burned on this one because I didn't ask enough questions and get more pictures but I still think it is a sharp looking bike. Surprisingly heavy at 24.5 lbs.

This is F73217. According to the registry:

1973 F73217 P15/10? UNK All-chrome (damaged finish) UNK Kurt Kaminer PICTURE FORK ONLY - see P12 #F54.

So evidently the fork was on F54 at one time anyway. I am going by this when I say it was all chrome before the powder coat. The rear dropouts and head tube lugs appear to have original chrome. I did not see any chrome where the powder coat had chipped off in other areas.

The head lugs, fork crown, and six inches of the front and rear fork ends were chrome plated on the 1973 P13-9, P10-9, and P15-9 Paramount models.

Well, what do you know? Speak of coincidences - this means your original fork is presently on my 1961 Paramount:

I'll get you a closeup sometime. Someone went over it with fine sandpaper, ruining the chrome finish. I bought it on the CR list from another fellow who was using it as a temporary fork on his Paramount; other than that, I don't know the rest of the fork's history.

I'd offer it to you, but I have no replacement fork for the '61, and I had to reduce the steerer threads by about 4mm when I fit it. The fork originally fitted to #F54, when I acquired it, was a mid-1960's Coppertone replacement with no serial number (or eyelets). Someone probably wrecked #F54's original fork without damaging the frame.

It is sweet. I'm not sure I've ever seen those style of decals in person. I think anything nice before the 70s was purchased by a dedicated rider, and there weren't many of them around in those days!

Sorry to bump this up, but - BlueDevil63 - would you mind if I added this machine to the registry? I feel it would be particularly relevant to have it up; particularly as its original fork is already referenced there due to F54.
