I have them and love them but they are usually way over priced on ebay IMHO....

Hmm... I have the same ones but the next step down, Deore DX. They do work nicely. But still, it amazes me that old XT stuff can fetch that mutch.

It is my understanding that the 7 speed DX are internally identical to the XT and are actually lighter. I have several sets of both as well as spares

Good golly!

Ebay continues to amaze.

I have one or two complete sets with front and rear derailleurs, although not exactly sure what model.

In fact, maybe someone can identify these for me, if you would please?

Geeze! I gotta start watching what I pitch out! How many sets of similar, if not identical, shifters have I pitched? None, I guess, but my guess is that my first guess is wrong.

I should stop selling bikes and frames and start getting the components up on Ebay.

Perhaps hey're valuable since, unlike their click-shift cousins, they aren't guaranteed to break with less than 3 years of steady use.

Damn I got a set of these, and the one with the steel clamp rather than the alloy one.

Almost all shimano stuff has the series number stamped onto it somewhere. Yours looks alot of like mt60 series deore, but there are slight details different from yours and the group on my miyata terra runner. The RD appears to be identical, however. If you take a close look, I'm sure you can find the series on the components.

The XT ones differ from the regular Deore in that the housing is cast AL on the XT and just stamped steel on the Deore (or something like that, I'm working from memory). I don't know about the DX version, as I've never seen a DX thumbshifter. From what I've seen, the XT version usually bring about $70 on ebay, much, much less for the regular (steel) Deore. I have no idea why these ones are going so high, perhaps because they are NOS.

For NOS i wouldnt say its that rediculous, i have seen older shifters go in the $200 range all the time.
Mavic "wishbone" mtb shifters were not that great and the last set went for $160. NOS simplex bar-ends go over $200.

Even better are the mid-80s era 'Deer head' 1st-gen XT solid alloy thumb shifters. Getting pretty rare, though.
