Hey guys, I'm trying to work out a deal on this bike "ala trade". I would like to figure out what I'm getting here frame-wise. I know there are plenty of "fixie haters" on here, but lets just focus on the frame, shall we. It's been repainted FYI. Thanks a ton!

I'm not able to make out that serial number. Knowing that and the seatpost size will help with identification. The lugs on that are relatively common.

it could be almost anything. what size is the BB? anyidea on the dropouts? that is a nice repaint.

Looks French. Specially the domed stay tips at the DOs. Gitane?

I like the metal pipe frame on the picnic bench. When the wood wears out after a few years, it can be replaced, and it's like new.

Oh, the bike, nice repaint. Isn't the fork crown fairly unusual?

It may be a frame that was contract manufactured by Giant. The G-prefix serial number uses the format adopted by Giant in the late 1980s. The C-prefix serial number probably belongs to the contractor's brand.

As suggested, the best indicator of tube level is the seat post diameter. I don't think this is anything special based on the square cut BB collars, flat cut seat lug top and dropout eyelets.

I'll try to get more info about bottom bracket size and seat post diameter. What's up with the hole in the BB shell? Did it have an underside mounted cable guide possibly? Notice, there is no built in derailleur hanger. I hope it wasn't just cut off. I've had plenty of nice bikes that didn't have one though. The rear dropouts look to have a machined raised lip like nicer cast dropouts, but aren't very long. The fork crown grabbed my attention, as it looks familiar to me. I know it doesn't scream high end. I just want to make sure it's not a turd.

The hole in the BB shell is for a plastic, derailleur cable guide. I don't see any brake cable tunnels or stops, so I imagine the derailleur hanger was removed was cut-off, along with the other fittings. I also just noticed the combintion chainstay bridge and kickstand mount, I'd say you are in entry level territory. Probably hi-tensile stays and forks with maybe a CrMo main triangle.

1987-ish Miyata, "Victor" maybe. My Triton had that stay bridge / kickstand mount.

Seatpost diameter is supposedly 26.6mm. Waiting for a response on the BB threading. Thanks.

Bottom bracket sizing is English. Nobody has any other ideas?

only that it's Japanese (or if T-Mar says it's a Giant, then I'd defer to him). 26.6 seatpost could make it something like a Tange #2 or lower (higher number) or something from Ishiwata...I wouldn't guess Miyata but only cause T-mar would have said if it was. The Gran Compe stem is a style that often had a .833" quill, check the stamping on the stem for the quill size. Stay treatments are like Nishiki International or Olympic used, but...serial number isn't a Nishiki format, I guess.
