My best ebay bicycle deal ever was from a ebay store front operation like this one. These places are often a ripoff, do a lousy job posting the ads, but suck in people that are intimidated with selling on ebay.

I live close to the seller. Less than 5 miles. Here is the deal with them, They own a retail store and also a weekly in person auction as well as ebay auctions. They are sellers of lost and damaged freight. Most of the goods they sell were damaged in shipping from UPS ,FED EX ,freightlines etc....

So somebody most likely received this bike, turned in an insurance claim. They then get the goods from the insurance or shipping company and resell for the company. All of the bikes I have ever seen from them have had damage, bent wheels , dent , gouges in the frame or so other shipping damage. They are not bike savvy people and don`t do a good job of disclosing damage of alot of the items they sell. Bid with caution , I have heard of people having many problems with the bikes the ebay or sell on craigslist. They are a big company that does not really take the time to research or look over the items they sell for damage. I know someone who purchased a carbon cervelo from them, and when the went and picked the bike up there was a deep gouge in the carbon and the fork had a crack in it, none disclosed in the ebay listing. Bid with caution.

Won't bid at this point.

No need to, as there are plenty of nice ones in our neck of the woods.

I had a whole day to think about it, and have decided against hasty bids.

When you want to try an Italian bike, let me know.

I fact, I have a line on a super nice Bianchi that the kids and I are looking at this afternoon.

Probably your size as well.

OFG,

Pics are often poor for intentional reasons.

In this case, I am not sure that was their intent, but it is an outcome as far as I'm concerned.

The correct shots aren't available.

The "chrome" fork has me scared to be truthful, and I would be mighty interested to see if there is a bulge on the DT.

Finally, my oldest son asked why I have to buy "another beat up" bike. I couldn't give him a good answer.

Especially since we have a big swap here next weekend, and we always find a bike or two when we attend.

No ebay indigestion pains, and no shipping charges.

That was my thought regarding the fork, which is the reason for my post to OFG above. However, you can see enough of the lugs to see that they certainly look like the cast De Rosa short points - the seat binder placement is correct for a cast-lug De Rosa, and that's one of the telltale signs. I would like to see more of the fork, and the seatstay top eyes. But what you can see correlates with it being a De Rosa frame, unless I'm missing something.

Fork looks similar to this one:

Though the pic is of a track bike.

I'm a little more concerned about damage.

I'm concerned that the fork is a replacement, and it appears someone took the bars off to see if there were "possible" internal damage (s) to the head tube.

I don't see damage related to a crash, but I have become highly suspicious about purchasing someone else's problems and making them my own.

But, it may very well be a De Rosa.

My kids and I enjoy rebuilding these older Italian bikes, but if they aren't excited about a project, why bother?

The last frameset I purchased on ebay, a Zullo, had many small issues.

No knockout blows, but just enough to make it into an expensive refinish.

When added up, a "deal" can quickly turn into a pain in the rear.

I agree. It's certainly possible it's damaged.

I've seen those braze-ons and the aero shifter mount, but agree that there are inconsistencies. The damage concerns are definitely warranted.

To be fair, they're an auction service. Someone less inter-tube savvy brings the item to the auctioneer, may or may not write the description and turns it over. They, the auction service, get either a flat fee and/or a commission. Snap a couple pics, throw up the auction and voila. This isn't Pawn Kings, they're not going to waste the time or money investigating what the client is selling, especially if they are a high volume business.

I agree this seller has 735 other auctions running right now from faucets to shoes thats about 100 items a day I dont think they spend a lot of time researching the items

I can live with inconsistencies on De Rosas, but that, for me, is the real head-scratcher.

Frame is obviously quite different but I have seen those types of shift levers on a De Rosa before, this one was on ebay a few months ago

That's a whole different ball game...that's a rare aero-tubed De Rosa. I remember Grady sent me a link to that bike on ebay. It was in Canada, local pick-up only or somesuch...I wanted that bike BAD.

I just wouldn't buy from someone with what appears to be so little respect for the buyer that it's not worth putting the chain back where is came from. Amazing, given the 180 zillion feedbacks...

If he can't be bothered neither can I.

Exactly.

The money is one thing. 12 % is no small matter if you are selling a $5000 sailboat.

It's the excuses and irritation after the fact that drove me zonkers.

Used to do sailboats and had to stop.

It just wasn't fun anymore.
