Lovely clean-up. Plenty of life in that bike yet, and good that it's going to used for some racing - not just sitting in the back of a garage gathering dust.
You just need some old-school Mavic, Scott or Profile tri bar clipons now to complete the look, and maybe a Nitto 66 forward post.... but I digress. |
beautiful job.

Real good looking bike, Chris. I've seen a Master version of the Ironman here on C&V. What are the differences between the two? Are there any other versions ?
|
The master had Shimano 600.

Looks nice...good job. Good photos too. Can you tell me what kind of stand you are using in the before photos?
|
Thanks for the compliments. It's obvious that this bike has very low mileage, most of the wear is from being moved around a garage for 20+ years.
@ 55/Rad: The stand in the first few photos is a leg from a Gitzo tripod, it's back where it belongs now :) |

Beautiful bike, I got her big sister in 60cm, exactly like yours..;) picked it up about 4 weeks ago, and just like you, crazy about it.. It is in very good to excellent condition. In fact, it is a carbon copy of yours just larger..

I saw the thread about your bike and that's what inspired me to get rolling on this one. Thanks for that!
Thanks much! |
You guys are gonna make me look bad....this is the dirty pic.
I've already gone out and cleaned up the frame a lot, even cleaned the tubulars. Peer pressure, you see. http://velospace.org/files/ClaimsPhotos005.jpg http://velospace.org/files/t_P1170497.JPG |
Love the pic, I dont feel as bad for having brifters on mine now
|
Looks gorgeous Robbie, I'm pretty sure yours is cleaner than mine!
I could only clean the hoods to an off-white color and they made the new tape looked too white in comparison, so I tinted it slightly with clear shellac. It matches the aged paint on the frame better too now... |
Nice work! A much needed cleaning made that penny shine like brand new!
One thing I found similar to yours and my Ironman is the yellow grease stains around the headset/fork. I also had it on the BB shell as well (mine was white where I see yours is painted teal). I'm still battling that same problem now with a Team Fuji that I'm cleaning up. The yellow grease has stained the white paint and nothing I'm using is taking it off. |
Yes, it definitely penetrated into the paint. I tried some polishing compound, but gave up when I realized that it wasn't helping.
