Zap and the Art of Cycle Maintenance
Repairs for Mavic Zap gears and controllers
Is your unit playing up?
Are you too terrified to dismantle it for a clean-up?
Or did you chuck it into the attic in disgust when it failed on you
during a wet ride for the umpteenth time?
Well help is at hand.
As a qualified engineer, I have designed and manufactured my own
tooling to aid full rebuilds (almost 60 parts come out of a unit) -
and use Delrin plastic compatible grease on reassembly. All my work is
carried out in a clean environment. It is essential that units are
rebuilt periodically - in my case about 3 times a year - as the
sealing of the mechanism, though surprisingly effective, cannot resist
the ingress of oily, abrasive particles. Water-proofing the unit with
a non-hardening, silicone grease has also proved effective.
I now have several brand new Zap derailleurs, some with controllers,
and the Zap-dedicated tester. Should you require any assistance in
keeping your Zap in reliable condition, contact me, Oliver Penney,

Mavics website has the tech documents for all the mektronic stuff but I don't think it goes back to zap.
EDIT: just checked and tech-mavic.co.uk only goes back to 97.
Then I realized I have the tech documentation at home in my mavic folder. I will up load it as soon as i get home. It doesnt have much for troubleshooting if I remember correctly as they were not designed to be disassembled beyond the cage.

Good luck to you.
Electronic crap is inherently life limited (Rust Never Sleeps). It is usually difficult or impossible to maintain/repair - parts obsolescence is a BIG problem in the electronics industry. I would never rely on an electronic gizmo for proper operation of my bike.
If you get it fixed, put it in a museum.
