Lotus Classique
I'm looking at a Lotus Classique with Tange 2 tubing at the moment. It comes with all Shimano 600 components. I do know that this was manufactured in Japan, But what does this mean for compatibility with other parts on the frame?

That's a nice bike. You won't have any compatibility problems--everything has standard English threading.

depending what you want to do with you should have no nissues with newer parts. I think that bike is old enough to be friction so tring to put index especially a brifter type system could be expensive.

If you don't like taking a hand off the bars to shift, consider friction or non-index ratchet barcons, which are an economical and effective alternative to brifters.

That's good news. It means the bicycle uses the most common thread standard - English. Consequently, compatible replacement parts are relatively easy and inexpensive to obtain. Based on the decals it appears to be a late 1980s model, so it's probably Shimano New 600EX SIS. The only problem I can think of is, if it's a freehub, in which case the Uniglide threaded cog are not cheap, if it is worn out. No replacement problems if it uses a freewheel.

leave it as is and ride it.
The older replacement parts are readily available since you know about CL.
Fair price if it is rust free and everything works.
Make sure your legs are long enough - ha.

Nice bike. It were smaller I would have grabbed it. Pretty sure it is another BF members. Tange 2 frames are great. Parts will be plentiful and chep. Lotus mane nice bikes for their price point. Lugwork is very nice for a mass produced Japanese bike

For what it is worth, my 1984 Lotus Classique (Tange Champion 1 frame and fork), was hand brazed by Tsunodo (sp?) Only one Lotus catalog on line, I forget what year. Best way to date is to look up the component codes.
