- Ugh!
What year is the Nishilki? Around about 83 I don't think they used badges - At least my Int'l has only a decal, and those are easier to fake.

I think there is someone in the Boston area who makes headbadges on the cheap, but I'm not 100%.... I think (southpawboston) is familiar with the person, he may chime in.....

There's some interesting ones on etsy.com
Search for headbadges. I like the bovil beetle and the moustache one.
I got a sun one from headbadges.com.

gotta love that beer-theme badge stuff, looks like he does a nice job on the PBR cans, too...but re the OP: I can't imagine a Nishiki badge would be that hard to come by, they certainly sold a lot of them and a lot have been scrapped. Somebody must have a trashed frame you can pull a badge from: do you have a bike Co-op in your town? Any hoarders?

This is, most likely, what you are seeking and I am certain that I have a spare out at my summer cottage. Too bad I didn't see this earlier. I was out there yesterday and could have dragged it into town, along with an old CCM Cleveland that I was picking up for a customer...

Patience, grasshopper. Start an eBay search for 'Nishiki ("head badge", headbadge, badge)' and have email sent to you when one turns up. They do come up occasionally. Just to tantalize you, I do have one, NOS; but I'm loath to part with it.

Oh, didn't know it was a '70s Nishiki PRO...that was my first "serious" bike and I bought a too-big frame, traded down for a Semi-Pro (not nearly as nice but the clinchers were more durable than the sew-ups on the Pro).
It definitely needs to have a badge, glad you got one from rhm.

I saw an ad for a competition-wondering what the diff was in models? [I should say frame as components listed out the same for the pro] Only diff on my pro from the compe ad is: windowed lugs-decals (of course) and a silk fork. Maybe a year model name change??? Ad was a 73-tennitive date on this (by T-Mar) 72-74 Any insight?

good questions: I didn't see this model in my LBS when I bought my Pro (which like yours had the flat-black head tube and panel and the chrome stay caps, plus the round-blade twin plate crown fork with "silk" decal). I know my Semi-pro had barcons, but that may be the other big diff between this Road Compe model and the Pro: down tube shifters. They didn't specify what grade of "chrome-moly" tubing the different models used, but I'd bet that the Pro used something like Tange Champion #1 and my Semi-pro was certainly a heavier set, maybe equivalent to #3 or #4.

It had the barcons-prefer (and put on) the dt. Prior owner changed the brake calipers/dr's and the wheels. Exspected more from a 'top of the line' model I guess/like you say tubing-but how would that turn a customer to the 'higher' model-without any difference in the frame designation sticker (or components). The fork-I've researched to a model by the same name by Katakumura (has its own badge)-but that is about it. Originally a track fork design (?) Well thought I'd pick some brains in this forum/been in the Nishiki data base. Note: Not as light as a 531 frame of the same size-yet a very nice handling machine.
