The bike is a bit small for me and the Campagnolo seatpost didn't have enough height so I subbed a Miche, the purists might give me grief on that and the tires, but I like the look and I can always put the Campy back on if I ever need to. It rides beautifully.

Nice Giro @PilotFishBob..The celeste tires don't look bad and the hint of red doesn't either. What size is it?

Maybe going with celeste cables or black wouldve made the frame pop a little more. Nonetheless it's a beautiful build.

I've started a Sport SX celeste build and thinking of ultegra 6700 in glossy grey with wheelset.

That's a DA 7400 headset in case anyone's curious.

Hi @macala622;. Thanks, it's 57cm to top tube. I have a 34" inseam so that's pushing it a bit, but it worked out and it's a comfortable ride. The bike came with red cables and the bottle cages, I thought about going a different color but decided I liked the contrast so stuck with it. It's my first Bianchi so I'm on a new learning curve with this one.

Smart choice going with bianchi.

How much did you get the bike if you don't mind sharing.

I'm think of building a campy bianchi just for kicks to see how it compares to Shimano.

Hi fx73. Based on my research I the hubs appear to be C Record, that fits with the brakes. The rims are Camapanolo Omega Strada Hardox. Per some other input I've received, the '89 Giro came with Athena components but this one has evidently seen some upgrades. I'm not complaining!

Hi malcala622. Sure, I gave $250 for it. I think I got a very good bargain.

That's a damn good bargain for a Bianchi in that condition and groupset...great score.

@PilotFishBob - that looks real nice. The red is a unique touch, red tires would really make that bike stand out! I was pleasantly surprised and pleased how well the Synchro II shifters work on mine after all the grief they've been given on this forum. How are yours?

BTW I'm a former Memphian, used to live in Midtown near Rhodes College. I rode on the RB Cyclery rides and occasionally with the Hightailers.

Thanks Spaghetti Legs. We think alike - I considered red tires and have a Vianelli Corsa with those installed so I pulled its front wheel and tried it on the Bianchi. Couldn't make up my mind if I liked it or not, seemed like it would work better if the saddle/handlebars were black or red also but hard call. Finally chickened out and when the celeste route. I did get a red saddlebag to add a bit. The bike originally had red Look pedals, Liked it but had a set of late 80's Campy Chorus pedals floating around and thought those were more appropriate. On the shifters, getting them adjusted was a bit time consuming but on a test ride last weekend things seemed to work very well, no problems. I was expecting braking issues, some comments out there suggest that the C Record delta brakes weren't very strong but I had no problems at all.

Former Memphian eh? Then you understand the struggle I have to keep the weight off - I swear every other day someone tries to drag me out for barbecue. Not that I'm that hard to drag out...

My '96 Ti Megatube.

I used my college loan dispersement to buy this off a friend of mine (I paid "myself" back as I was also working full-time), back when it was nearly-new. I'm not using that college degree anymore... but I am still using the bike! Best money I ever spent.

Until very recently it had a black Syncros seatpost and stem. I think the 3TTT Status stem and campy seat post are much better.

I'm unsure about the grey bar tape, but I do know I was tired of black. I'm also thinking of removing the wheel stickers, as the yellow & red don't look nice. The ridiculously long valve stems weren't an option, as it's all I could get at the time. Fortunately (or not, depending on your point of view) I haven't had any flats since then, so I haven't replaced them. And next time there's a €5.99 wireless bike computer sale on at Lidl or Aldi, the old wired one will go away...

You guys are paying ridiculously low prices for fully built bianchi bikes. I may have to start searching on the east coast and have you guys facilitate for me.

These Cali prices are steep.

I had great luck last year when this bike surfaced, dirt cheap, on a local selling site here in Sweden. I came home late from work and just browsed the net a little to wind down. The ad was just posted and I responded immediately by mail. Long story a little shorter – he phoned me, I told him he had a too low price, he thought I was the right buyer - and I bought it. I got the bike for the asked price but we added some for the tools and accessories that he told me he had.

The seller had owned it since 1978 and won a regional championship on it. He had bought it from a guy that was a Swedish national champion. When looking into this it actually was true as the first owner (I got hold of him) won the road time trial in 1975 – in the “old boys” class. He could however not say if it was on this bike as too much time had passed.

To find a "174" Bianchi Specialissima Professionale in Sweden is no easy task, to find one in my size does not make it easier and last – to find it in this condition…

It has a low serial (which eludes me right now). The frame is in almost perfect shape, some small paint chips that is all. There is tape under the pump peg so it will clean up nicely – and the peg is not going back on. A good rubbing and waxing is all that is needed for the frame. Rear derailleur and hubs are -73. It has an early SR seatpost with some extra milling or a NR with “extra, extra” milling – cannot say if it is custom made by someone afterwards or custom made by Campagnolo. Cinelli old logo bar and stem. Unicanitor saddle, long reach brake handles and Fiamme Ergal rims. I would say this has to be a1974 bike.

As this was not enough, the extra parts were more than he had told me on the phone about. There were a celeste pump and bottle, Campagnolo tools, crank extractors, etc, an original paintbottle, an old Campagolo grease jar, new drilled and undrilled chainwheels, a new 3ttt stem, a new Cinelli Criterium old logo handlebar, new Camapgnolo brake blocks, the original TA bottle holder. And some old spares of this and that…have a look at the pictures.

I started with “I had great luck”, apart from my ex Pettersson Masi/Monark/Ferretti team bike this is my overall nicest find yet.
