Touchup paint on my Miyata 610

I have read so many different suggestions for touching up the paint on old frames. I'm so confused now.

My black Miyata 610 has quite a few chips and scratches in the frame. I was hoping to touch some of them up, mostly to stop the rust.

I have read using nail polish, model paint, automotive touch up paint... which one works best? The bike is black, so I don't imagine color matching to be all that hard.

If at all possible, use auto touch up. It's lacquer and dries hard, quick, and sandable. Model paint is usually enamel...nail polish is nail polish. Neither dry as hard as lacquer.

Clean the chips with alcohol, put on a drop that gets to the chip edges and mounds up, let dry well. If when dry there's still a recess add some more until it dries above the surface. Get some 1500 grit wet dry and carefully sand the overage flush to the surface. Little ScratchX to put a finish back on the paint, then polish. You'll have nearly imperceptible repairs. Black ends up being easy too. Good luck!

not necessarily...at least if you try the nail polish route

Fortunately my black '82 six-ten only had a few spots to touch up so I didn't make to much of a mess. For now I am going to stay with nicer auto paints.

Here in a bit I'm going to need to find a decent match for 1984 Fuji Metallic Green Blue...black would be a welcome alternative
