Come home from the bar and go on eBay... bad for credit

I have been looking for a (Koga) Miyata for a while but my wallet kept saying no. Drunkly I assumed I would place a bid and, like always, I would be out bid at the last second. I was not and now am out 200$, but it could be worse I could have bought something that I didnt want or something that was the wrong size.

Anyone else bid on ebay while under the influence?

So far I've resisted. Even passed up a '58 Lenton Grand Prix.

(Obviously I need to drink more beer.)

I passed out from the shots & beers before I could bid. In reality I just forgot to snipe and was surprised it went for so little.

I posted this on another, similar thread, but I still think it's relevant:

https://www.theonion.com/articles/man...ry-never,1592/

In short - it could be a whole lot worse. That said, I feel your pain a) from experience, and b) stone sober, I'm having to work at it talking myself out of not buying a Raleigh Mixte (55cm, which I don't see too often) off of The List of Craigs.

No, but knowing a frameset like that went for $200 makes me want to BE under the influence!

What a pick...

There have been some really insane prices on ebay lately (insanely low). It seems like whenever I decide not to bid, it goes low...and whenever I decide I'm in, it goes insanely high. Maybe I should drink more often and decide to go after things!

There was a Litespeed with full 7700 DA...about $900, a mostly Campy Guerticotti (I know I butchered spelling) that went for $450...a waterford paramount, complete, that didn't sell for $700.

Stone cold sober when I bought these two on ebay in 2004. 1992 Exerciser and Runner.

Looks like yours came with the internal cable grommets. This is good, because they're getting hard to find.

I've learned the hard way not to surf ebay while drunk (or under the effects of anything else). There hasn't been anything too big lately, but there was a super-crusty early Huffy BMX that I gave alot of money for because I thought it was a Yamaha mono-shock. I'm sure there's been a few hundred down the drain on small stuff I didn't need, but bought anyways.

Alcohol takes away your cognitive reasoning. It has happened to me. Bought a beat up Schwinn Passage that was passed on to my brother and a Schwinn Tempo with no front wheel that was pretty crusty. I'm sure there's more if I thought about it. If I have more then two beers I try and stay off Ebay.

I've been sober almost 21 years, but sobriety doesn't seem to moderate my impulsiveness. If you want to send that Koga 700 miles due south of you just let me know.

Drunken ebay bidding is way worse than drunk dialing/texting at least in my experience. I have actually heard drunken ebay bidding a number of times as the excuse for why someone was looking for bike parts.

That's the one! I just read a little closer and noticed the seat tube is 63cm... damn. The top tube is short so I will see what I think. Either way, i'll need to sell something in the near future I just need to decide which frames I want and which I dont.

I am the one that asked about the chain stay damage. I am a bit stupid because I forgot to watch for a reply before the auction ended. My lotus frame has mildly crushed stays though and it doesn't really seem to affect anything.

That was a nice catch before picture # 4 was added. What made you think the stays were crushed?

Well, I have seen stays that were damaged by kickstands before (my lotus being one of them). I noticed the extreme lack of paint and also felt that the steel looked dimpled. I assumed it was a high possibility BEFORE I set my snipe bid, so I was prepared for it either way. I just hope they aren't really crushed, I can deal with dinged. I never felt that it negatively affected my Lotus, so I suppose we will see with this one.\

The tubes still look pretty round in the picture so I think it will be fine. The seller did give me a chance to pull out so I don't feel there is any malice on his part.

I think your are ok, if I recall the chainstays on my Miyata 1400 have the same ovalization. As for the scratch on the bottom of the down tube, look like framepump rash.

I'm not sure what you are referring to with the frame pump rash? Could you be more specific?

I agree with that. Awkward phone calls the next day are easier with people you know then they are with credit card companys.
