Flat braze-on downtube shifter mount

Hey ya'll,

I just acquired a Cannondale CAD3 R600 and would like to run a set of shimano 7 speed downtube shifters. However, the curved braze-on adapter that i have which came with the 7 speed shifters wont fit on the cannondales DT braze-ons as they are much larger and flat. Any idea as to where I can find these flat adapters? I'll see if i can find/take a picture of them.

This is the best example I could find: https://www.unc.edu/~cupery/pics/bike..._shifters.html

They're hard to find. Best to grind common plates down a bit until they fit.

Would these work? The bike came with 8 speed drivetrain so i figure i'll just find 8 spd shifter instead of using the 7 speed.
Chain reaction is offering new 8spd shifters with the light alloy frame option. Im hoping that someone here as experience with these and know for certain they will fit/work.

Depends. I just received a couple sets of these from CRC, some had the flatties, some had the half moons, but they all had the same part number on them. Go figure.

GOOD ADVICE: grind down the half moons to flatties. Really, it's super-easy. Use a Dremel and a sanding drum or a belt sander- 5 minutes, max. Worst case use a sheet of coarse sandpaper (which will take more time). Even worse worst case, send them to me and I'll do them for you. Yep, I will. Do 'em all the time.

MORE GOOD ADVICE: decide how many speeds you want to use. The 7 speeds will work fine but you'll need a 7 speed cassette (assuming 130 spacing freehub) with a 4.5mm spacer behind the cassette to fit on the hub. Cassette + spacer = $27 +/-. If you already have an 8 speed cassette, these DT shifters will run you $33 plus shipping. Pretty much the same cost, but to me the extra gear is worth 6 bucks.

It took me a minute searching the Internet to find them. They're Shimano part number 643 4300:

Silly Rabbit, are you in San Fernando Valley? There should be a couple good bike shops that can get these for you. If not, contact Shimano directly.

Thanks fella's. I ordered the 8 speed shifters from CRC...figured the bike came with an 8 speed cassette, i might as well use it. I already have the 7 speed shifters/spacer/cassette but didn't want to ruin the only pair of boss covers I have. Just thought it would be wiser to get the proper shifters, plus it would be indexed rather than friction if I went with the 7 speed modified shifter setup. If they do send me a pair with the half moons, i dont mind taking a dremel to them as they will most like stay on the cannondale. Hopefully shipping doesn't take too long, i cant wait to ride it.
I am in the san fernando valley, but not too many shops around here carry that sort of thing. The only place I can think of is out in Ojai. If ya'll are down there it's worth a stop by as they carry a ton of used and somewhat hard to find components. Plus, who can beat a house turn bike shop?!

...did another pair tonight for a 54cm CC Cannondale frame-up build (white frame, 2nd gen 105, Sugino 75 crankset, everything else red. Yum!)

Took, oh...maybe 3 minutes and fit perfectly.

I just got a '93 R600 C'dale...and the original shifter broke when I took for a spin...It's my first road bike...I'm a noob when it comes to this matter and so I don't know how the heck to fix it. I took it to a shop earlier today and said it's gonna be hard to fix and they don't sell the kit anymore.
The right shifter snapped off the bolt and the bolt is bent... Can any of you guys help me?

ps. SRabbit - which shop in Ojai? I'm from Oxnard, maybe I can stop by that shop and see if they have this part...

Been there, done that.

It's a tricky fix because of the threading directions, but a long bolt can be used to "reconstruct" the mounting for the shifter bosses.

Back off and think about it in steps.

1-Disassemble completely.
2-Look at the cross bolt, pay attention to the threading on the ends, as far as size.
3-Figure out how you're going to re-create that. (I used two bolts with the ends cut off and a sleeve)
4-Figure out which piece you're going to be rotatiing to get the proper fit, and red Loctite the others. Practice first.
5-Reassemble the cross bolt assembly, and the bosses. I'd use blue Loctite on the rotating pieces.
6-Do not overtighten.
7-Re-attach shifters. If broken, they're available new in a generic model, I believe, and of course, used.

Good luck. rccardr is your best source, he being infected with the Cannondale virus.
If anyone can help you, he can. I've only done it once, and I keep my fingers crossed to this day.

The shop is called "Bicycles of Ojai".

I would imagine they would have what you're looking for. I hope it gets fixed soon!

Thanks for the help guys. I straighten up the rod somehow and got it to work by using high strength epoxy to join the rod and the black piece...

Here it is, test fitting. I'm replacing the 105 shifter to 600.
