Bikes: 1981 Trek 613, Bianchi Ibex, Bianchi Fixed, Schwinn Tempo, nothing that would get stolen (sigh).

Please help assess quality of some vintage wheels

Hey C&V'rs,

I was hoping you could give me some information on two sets of wheels I have.

1. 27" - Came on older Trek.

Front and Rear -Wolber rims laced to unlabeled cup and cone hubs. Oddly, the cups and skewers read "Specialized". I don't know enough about spokes to give any info. Built by Wheelsmith, numbered in production line. Can check for exact number later. They feel light and smooth, 6-speed freewheel.

2. 700c - From early 90's Bianchi (Taiwan love)

Front - Mavic Monte/OEM black rims laced to 105 hub.
Rear - Mavic MA 3 with 8 speed cassette laced to 105 hub.

Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. If you'd like pictures, of course I can supply.

As always, you guys rock!

Pics will always be preferred over "no pics".
Some guesses re the 27": Wheelsmith generally used good stuff and built good wheels. Wolber rims might be some of the Super Champion line that migrated to Wolber (who bought them) and if they are Specialized hubs they are good Japanese hubs. Wheelsmith often built with Asahi spokes marked with a "W".

Pics would be great.

Is the bike that the wheels are going on 27" or 700c? This may be important for brake reach. Wolber and Mavic make good rims. Likewise, Shimano 105 hubs and Specialized hubs are the beez kneez.

Both are of high quality. The Specialized hubs of that era were manufactured by Sansin. They also produced all of Maeda Suntour's hubs.
Spokes should be Wheelsmith, as mentioned above.

8-spd freehub means 1551 or 1552 105 line. Good stuff. I have an older 1550 7-spd Uniglide freehub that still spins like melting butter.
MA-3 is great, can't comment on a Monte.

Spoke count (rear wheel) on the Wolber would help. A 40-spoke rear wheel would make it a nice touring wheel.
